The revolutionary potential of this project was clear from the very first; in a few months, Petroldragon — this being the name of the company which was established to develop and implement the technology — was able to produce, albeit by means of a yet rather makeshift and primitive apparatus, two tons of oil from ten tons of organic wastes — that is to say, that fraction of municipal waste consisting of paper, wood, plastic, food, and the like.
This sounds like a familiar story, but Rossi's invention came before that story I'm thinking of by a long period of time. Rossi's invention was in the early eighties. Jimmy Carter gave him a special visa to come to the USA in order to develop it here.
The story goes on to indicate that he was unjustly treated and prosecuted for his invention. Could that happen again? Could something truly beneficial to mankind be treated as a menace and its inventor jailed? One would hope not, but with the way things are, I'm not so sure about that anymore.
