Murders of police men

Ask yourselves this: would all this be happening if Obama wasn't president?

I think he bears some responsibility for it.  He has lined up with phony complaints that has helped to gin up racial hatreds.

The election of the first black president hasn't done anything for race relations, has it?  It cannot, for racial animosity is what animates those who support him.  If they didn't have that, there would be no reason for their existence as a political force.  Therefore, their incentive is for things to get worse, not better.

Throwing out more stuff

As the time for moving out nears, I am steadily whittling down the stuff I've got in this place.

I will be traveling as lightly as practical.

There are only a few big items left in here.  Not sure exactly how I will handle those.  The freezer is a keeper.  I may not keep the recliner.  Too big.  The old recliner has to be thrown out.  At this point, those are the big three.  Everything else can be carried out by yours truly.

RV trailer

Prev  Next

This post will go into the Construction sub-series of the off-the-grid main series of posts.  These posts can be accessed from a table of contents and watched individually or in series from beginning to end.

An idea just came to me.  I can get an RV trailer, live in Houston for awhile, then take it out west with me when I am ready.  That part isn't really new, but what is new is this:  I can anchor that thing down well enough, then it won't be an attractive target for thieves.

It will need to be anchored anyway.  Here's how I can do it.  Take the wheels off.  Set it up on blocks, but also on a concrete pad.  The concrete pad will be reinforced with rebar.  Connect the rebar together so that it all becomes one mass.  How?  Don't finish the pad until trailer is in position.  Finish both halves with a unfilled section in the middle near the axle.  Bend some rebar so that it will fit around the axle.  Fit the rebar over the axle, and connect the rebar to the rest of the other rebar in the unfilled section.  This may require a weld.  Once the rebar is in place, pour the concrete over the rebar.  After it sets, it will be necessary to bust up the concrete and/or cut the rebar in order to get that RV out of there.

For good measure, the rebar can be covered with cinder block to form another barrier.  Also, the same process can be done at the tongue end of the trailer.

Pat Condell: "We saved our democracy".

The criticisms of the vote to leave sound a lot like the never Trumpers.  So, the advice to the Brits is to not to count your chickens before they hatch.  Until the Brexit is actually honored, be aware that they will not allow it if they can get away with it.

The never Trumpers want to deny Trump the nomination even though he won it due to the people who actually voted.  Until Trump is the official nominee, you really don't know what is going to happen until it does.

Spirits in the material world

Made a few changes to the sidebar.   I include this song and this from the Gospel because, well, it makes sense to me.

The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all.---John 3:31

Spirits in the material world---The Police --- Lyrics

There is no political solution
To our troubled evolution
Have no faith in constitution
There is no bloody revolution

We are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world

Our so-called leaders speak
With words they try to jail you
They subjugate the meek
But it's the rhetoric of failure

We are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world

Where does the answer lie?
Living from day to day
If it's something we can't buy
There must be another way

We are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world

You never know who you can meet out there

There was an interesting conversation today on the job.  A man who works in the power plant business was complaining about the current president.  He was talking about the shut down of the coal fired plants his employer owns.  They can clean up the plants, he says, but other options are cheaper.

He surprised me a bit when he said that the emissions coming out of the coal fired plant are cleaner than the air that goes into it.  Even with the carbon dioxide produced by the combustion of coal.  They capture it and make useful products out of it.

Nope, the big problem now is with the ash.  So, I mentioned Thorium.  He never heard of it.  I told him what I found out about Thorium- that the coal ash has more energy potential in it than the coal it came from.  That seemed to get his attention.

I don't know if he follows up on what I told him, but I suppose it is one way to spread the word about Thorium.

Update:

He might have been talking about this, too.  It sounds a lot like the same story he was telling me.  Unfortunately, I don't recall the specifics.

"Clean coal" is definitely possible, but not if the environmentalists run the show.

Septic system planning

Prev   Next

This post will go into the sewage and waste subseries of the off-the-grid series of posts.  [Note:  not really a series.  The previous button will eventually send you to a grab bag of links.  The next button will send you back to the table of contents.]

Isn't it funny that the thing that you need to spend the most time on is the thing that you spend the least amount of time on?  At least that is the case with this septic system.  Without this approved, I am nowhere as far as using the land is concerned.

With that in mind, I have to move forward on this, or not at all.  The rest is just playing around.

Decisions have to be made.  Number one, I have to relocate the cabin.  If I am going to sink a lot of bucks into this thing,  I need to get the location right.  The current location may be too close to the property line.  I may need to move it about 50 feet further into the interior.  This may require a new trip out there in order to select a new site.  If  I do that, there are two possibilities:  1) move towards the highest point on the property that I know of, or 2) move a little further in the same direction my shack was in.   The trouble with the second option is that I don't know its elevation.  The problem with the first option may be in accessing it.

I was thinking of using an altitude measuring device in order to determine elevation.  The topological maps don't seem to be accurate enough.  According to those maps, I am already near the highest point.  The land is pretty flat, so any loss in elevation isn't likely to be significant.

Money is always an issue, so I have to simplify what I am doing.  From my info sources, which are incomplete, it looks like I can get a couple thousand gallons of month of water on a contract at about  40 bucks per month.  I have to haul it myself.  If I am going to pay that much for the water, I may as well not recycle it.  The recycling effort takes money, and I am already paying for the water if I follow the current plan .

I would like to use no more than 5 gallons per day.  I have run some experiments that makes me believe that I could do this, but it would require a lot of discipline.  Plus a little bit of equipment.

For example, the shower puts out about a gallon per minute.  The kitchen sink puts out about a gallon every two minutes.  The battery powered shower gizmo puts out about a gallon per minute.  Therefore, I can practice with the battery powered gizmo to get a feel for what it would be like.  A battery powered pump comparable with the one I have already got should do the trick.

With respect to the water itself, I know how much weight I can put on the van.  I will limit each water excursion down to 150 gallons/ 1200 lbs.  I can make as many as 2000 divided by 150 trips per month on the water allowance.  That's 13 trips per month.  I won't make that many, especially if I only use 5 gallons per day.  In fact, only 1 trip would be required.  A lot of leeway.

I need to state where I get my water and how much I use.  This will determine the size of the holding tank.  I want to keep the tank as small as possible.

As mentioned in earlier posts, I want to cut down on the water flows, and direct most water into the gray water stream.  If I release no more than a gallon of black water daily, then I should be able to get approval for a small holding tank.  There will be no black water from the toilet, as I will use an incinerating toilet.  If that cannot be approved, I have located a toilet that uses but a small amount of water and can be fitted to a holding tank.  Then I will use the incinerating toilet anyway, providing that it pays in terms of expenses.

In other words, I have a plan that could get approved.  It is now a matter of how to put it all together.

What kind of equipment do I use?  I may be able to use a skid steer, but that is a big machine to haul a long, long way.  Since the tank may be small, I was thinking of using a "jackhammer" to break up the hard pan.  I can rent one from Home Depot for 48 bucks per day.

That's two things I can do before doing anything big.  The first thing site selection, and the second thing is to experiment with the jackhammer.

I have to find out where this water company is.

I haven't talked with the county man, except for one time.  He gave me a list of people who can do the septic system installation and/or site evaluation.  I am wondering how to economize on this.  Do I really need an evaluation if it only has a holding tank?  I may want to just tell him what I want to do.  He can approve it or not approve it.

I know one thing.  I cannot afford to spend a lot of money on this thing.

Has Trump Found the Formula?

Pat Buchanan

He had better.  After the Feckless FIB investigation of Dame Hildebeast's emails, there isn't any alternative to getting rid of the Clintons.

FBI's Comey says Hillary was a bad girl

But it is okay because she really didn't mean it.

This could be a comedy, but it so farcical that it really isn't funny at all.

She had no intent?  The only reason to set up such an unsecured site was to avoid prying eyes.  That's the prying eyes of law enforcement.  But in doing so, she exposed the nation's secrets to enemies.

The FBI's Mr. Comey is said to have a reputation for integrity.  You can forget about that now.  There isn't much integrity anyway in DC these days.  Practically zero.

Does not surprise me

Hillary won't be indicted.  I have my reasons why it doesn't surprise me, and it goes back a number of years.  So, no, I am not surprised.

OJ Simpson was acquitted in the double murders of his wife and Ronald Goldman.  Does anybody with functioning synapses believe that he was innocent?  Just because OJ gets off scot free, does not make him innocent.  Same with anybody else that has a name that the powers-that-be won't touch.[ btw, this is not why I am not surprised.  It's personal.]

Hillary and Bill are both deeply compromised individuals.  Not to mention, they are liars.  Unfortunately for the US of A, the rot goes a lot deeper than these two.

Anybody with functioning synapses should know she is guilty as sin.  But it doesn't matter to these people who will support her no matter what.  They are as deeply compromised as she is.

The NeverTrumpers have their cover to vote for Hillary now.

If never-Trumpers cannot unite on that, they should leave the party.

Independence Day Reading [ the gall of this man]***

Bill Kristol is still at it.

Independence Day Reading: This election cycle hasn't been kind to Republican big shots. Their favorite presidential candidates—Jeb Bush, Scott Walker and Marco Rubio—fell short. Their opposition to Donald Trump was ineffectual, and their subsequent submission to him inglorious.
Now they have one last chance to do something that would bring credit*** to them and benefit to their party and country: Support the effort by hundreds of delegates to free themselves to vote their conscience at the GOP convention.
These delegates have been organizing from the bottom up. Their movement has more momentum than anyone thought possible a few weeks ago. But the delegates are under intense pressure from the Trump campaign and from RNC apparatchiks to buckle under. Republican governors, senators and congressmen—who privately acknowledge what a disaster Trump would be—can do one thing to help. They can provide air cover to delegates risking their careers charging on foot the entrenched batteries of the party establishment.[ emphasis mine... just to point out what a colossal jerk he is]

comment:

The real disaster and the real discredit they will do to themselves, the party, and the country- will happen if this idiotic idea gains traction.  It is idiotic because it will directly lead to the election of a criminal to the White House.  It is also idiotic for these people to believe that those who voted for Trump and who have had their wishes overthrown because of these people's zealotry - will suddenly change their minds and vote for the usurpers.  It is idiotic to the point of insanity to believe that things will continue on as they did before Trump if only Trump could be removed.  Things have already changed, and these people will begin to act intelligently once they accept it and start to work constructively with the outcome.
