Cold weather

Seems like the cold weather has outsized effects on things around here. It isn't as bad as last year, but it did slow things down. Traffic on the roads came to a stand still yesterday. With the sunshine, the ice is melting, and the roads are getting busier.

The effects on me involved no blogging until now. If there's one thing I don't like, it is cold weather. Good thing I'm not from up north. But it does get pretty hot in these parts, so I guess I won't like that either when that starts happening.

One thing it does do is slow down the bugs. There's more bugs than you can shake a stick at around here. Cold weather means no bugs. At least for awhile. It does help control the weeds, but I notice that the weeds are still green out there. Which reminds me, I haven't done enough with my foraging techniques. You may be able to eat some weeds, but around here, there doesn't seem to be many that you CAN eat.

Last week I noticed some mequite type bushes out in the back. The thinking is that they are mequites because they have thorns. One thing I didn't know about the thorns is that they are really bad news. Particulary so if you get one stuck under the skin. You have to get it out, or you could be in trouble.

Mesquite has a type of bean pod that is edible. I noted no bean pods on the ground, but the cattle around here may have scarfed them up. Cattle like those bean pods. They are supposed to be quite sweet. I'm in no hurry to find that out, as this is a type of survival sceanrio prep, and I don't envision eating many mesquite pods unless there's nothing else to eat. Know what I mean, Vern?

Not too long before identifying some mesquites, I id'd some oaks. Oaks produce acorns, and those can be eaten. But you have to prepare them properly first. There wasn't much problem in finding oaks in Houston because there are more squirrels there than can be counted. Not just referring to the two-legged kind, either.

While inside so much these past few days, I've been watching a lot of videos. Since things are not in the best shape these days, it took kinda of a religious aspect. A question came to mind as to the "next day" stories after the resurrection. Not those that are in the gospel, but those that may have been told, but aren't widely known. Like, what happened to Pilate? What happened to some of the other people in that story? I know that the stories are out there, and maybe some day I will look into them; yet I know that I will probably not get around to it. Being curious, one of these days, I might.

The more things change...

A couple videos from the past shows that certain things haven't changed that much over the past half-century of so...

The first video is Rush Limbaugh's first TV show. He is behind the blue dot. I remember that dreaded blue dot. In those days, like these days, the left wanted to shut down anybody and everybody who disagreed with them. You needed to hide behind a blue dot then, and things are the same today. Here's the intro to his first TV show...

Limbaugh admired Ronald Reagan. Although I didn't vote for Reagan in 1980 or 84, I consider his Presidency to have been a great success. I didn't vote for Reagan because he didn't cut spending enough for such large tax cuts. Otherwise, I had no problem with him at all.

Now check out this video and see how things haven't changed much since 1966. Not much at all? Actually, things are worse. We could use another Reagan. Reagan was as rare in 1966 as he is now. There are plenty of politicians who claim to want to cut the size of government. Reagan really would have, in my opinion, if he had a majority. Reagan never had a majority. George W. Bush did. Trump did. Those were small, fleeting majorities. The majority has to be bigger than those were, and we need a Reagan type to take a meat axe to the overgrown, all powerful, out of control government of today. Here's Reagan...

Beginner And Budget Friendly DIY Solar Power System! Anyone can build this!

Comment:

Real Easy! Real Cheep! ( not )

So easy to get sucked in, you mean. I don't want to be too negative. There would be some real advantages to being able to say sayanora to the power companies. But the costs are really not that cheap.

You might get a simple system ( his words ) for about 3k. If you've 3k you got lying around, by all means. My budget is a bit less.

You might have all the charging power you need with the alternator in your car. Attach a pair of jumper cables to your batteries and ta da! Now THAT would be what I call simple. You MIGHT be able to get a battery for 500 or 600 bucks. That's the problem there. That and making sure that everything is kosher on the electrical side. You don't want to foul up your transportation system. Probably hold the amp load down to the maximum amp load on any of the other circuits in your 12 volt system. I'm thinking that might do it. It would take several hours to charge up a 100 amp batt, though.

Legal Insurrection: Carville says for Dems to ditch the radical left

If You Want To Win Any more elections,  Carville warns the Democrats

Comment:

Carville shouldn't be trusted. All he cares about is winning elections, as this shows. It isn't about "saving the country". That's what he tells people to get them on board.

The country is in trouble, and some Democrats like Carville are getting nervous. The problem is with the radical left alright, but you'll never get Carville to admit that. That is why he cannot be trusted. He should tell his lefty buddies that they are wrong, and that they should admit it openly and honestly. Then they could begin to patch up the problems that they are directly responsible for causing. Make no mistake, they caused it all. They want to rig elections to escape accountability. Changing their tune now rings a bit hollow.

You've got the government in Canada, which is trying to criminalize people for CHEERING on the truckers. Freedom of speech, anyone? Are these people really dangerous for doing no more than that???? You've got a Gulag in the nation's capitol for nothing other than a riot. They have rotted in jail under unacceptable conditions for over a year now. Is this the Soviet Union now? Do we now have political crimes? Has the Bill of Rights been repealed?

This kind of attitude is pervasive amongst the left. They have had no problem with it until now, when the possibility of losing power seems so real to some of them. You have only two Senators who were willing to buck the hard left, so now we are to believe them only because they fear they are going to lose??? They'd be cheering if Sinema and Manchin caved in. It isn't about principles or saving the country. It is about saving their own butts.

Undeniable proof that the January 6th riots were not insurrection

Under a rule of law, the rightful leadership are the ones chosen by the people, according to the Constitution, which begins with "We The People". Anybody who protests that this is not the case, and the rightful leadership has been usurped, cannot possibly be a disloyal citizen. Indeed, the question arises as to who is the insurrectionary party. Is it those who wish an HONEST accounting for the outcome of an election to choose the leadership, or those who insist that the accounting was rightful?

This is a fair question. Because that gets to the heart of the matter as to who is really in charge. That is to say, is it the people who choose the leaders, or those who are preventing that from being properly determined? A question to that has to be determined one way or another, and that way is by the law, AS WRITTEN, and prior to the election. This is all done under the Constitution, in which all officers of the government must swear an oath to defend.

If it's the leadership itself that makes this determination, as is the case that the January 6th committee wants to establish; then how can that be trusted? It is an axiom of law that someone cannot be the judge of one's own case. The challenge before us is whether or not the people actually are in charge, or has that authority been usurped? One way to determine that is not to allow the officers of the government be the judge of their own case. There must be a way to answer this question, and the law provides for that. The states judge who are to be the leadership by running its own elections. If they do not have this authority, then that authority is relinquished to those who stand to benefit from judging their own case. That would be officers of the Federal government itself. To protest that this was not rightfully executed is a fair question. The January 6th committee cannot be a fair judge of that because they are actually in judgement of their own case.

The Vice President at the time, Mike Pence, decided to allow the proceedings to go forward. The count of the electoral votes proceeded even though there were questions about the accuracy of the counting of the votes at the state level. The Supreme Court refused to get involved. That was unfortunate because Pennsylvania, and some other states, changed the manner in which votes were to be cast, without the state legislatures' approval. This should have been declared unconstitutional. The executive cannot usurp the state legislatures' authority on the way electors are to be chosen. Mike Pence did the wrong thing. He could have asked that each state legislature in question, make a determination if the electoral count was lawful and accurate. This is done in jury trials, if requested, that a polling of the jury is done. Everyone in the various state legislatures would be required to go on record as their opinion of the controversy. If this cannot be determined at that time, then their electoral votes should not be counted.

There is a real problem here. A definite outcome is necessary, but how is this to be determined? Well, at the state level. If the states cannot or will not decide, then they have forfeited their duty, and their votes in the electoral college.

It looks like forfeiture explains this case. Also, to protest that is not sedition. To charge anybody with sedition in this case is tantamount to disregarding the will of the people, and usurping the government of the people in favor to a self-interested tyranny of the few. The people are not in service to the state, but the reverse. The January 6th committee wants to establish that no dissent is to be tolerated at the pain of treason. This is clearly adverse to the Constituion itself. Nobody has crowned them with permanent power. The right to remove the officers of the government is a right that the government cannot revoke without turning the concept of the a self-government on its very head.
