Here's 'Tiny Tim' on the comedy show Laugh-In, performing the mentioned song. This is regarded as comedy, mind you. The time was in the late sixties. I pose the question: Why was this considered to be funny? Another question: Would such a performance be considered as funny today? The answers to these questions may tell you something about how the society has changed in this last 50 years.
Don't believe me? Think about the questions I raised and then you cannot help but agree that something here has changed.
Unfortunately, those who would agree that there has been a change all right would also say that the change has been good.
