Took me awhile to find out the cause of the controversy because of all the excitement, I suppose. People are excited about stuff that is mostly irrelevant. It is only relevant because of the optics and because the optics drives the politics. The article linked to below actually describes the alleged offense against Lt. Col. Vindman. But the offense against Gen. Flynn was far more egregious. Nobody seems concerned about Flynn, though.
This is how the GOP loses these fights. Some pubbies don't have message control, while the Dems exploit this failure of message control to the hilt. Flynn could go to jail for doing nothing, but Vindman could get his Commander in Chief impeached and removed from office. The "offense" against Vindman is very mild. The offense against Flynn is much worse.
Some folks need to smarten up.

It is bad enough that Democrats engage in double standards. Even worse when certain GOP'ers do that too. ( Liz Cheney ) It goes a long way in explaining how the Pierre Delecto types do their best to undermine the POTUS of their own party. Makes you wonder what party they belong to.
