Democracies die by suicide

It has been written that democracies commit suicide.  With that in mind, the Framers of the CONUS created a Republic.  The CONUS combines elements of monarchy (President) , aristocracy ( Senate ), and democracy ( House ).  Each checks off the excesses of each with the object of stability in mind.

It has worked for over 200 years.  There was a Civil War, but generally speaking, it has worked pretty well.

You hear a lot about saving "our democracy" these days.  But this form of government isn't a democracy.  The "saviors" merely the use of words in order to influence others that the powers-that-be want to influence.  If they succeed, will democracy be saved?  Why would anyone believe that?  The one thing that is democratic in a sense is the election of the President, which isn't provided for in the CONUS anyway.  It has come about because of custom, not the law.  The law gives the elective power to the States' legislatures.  Each legislature has designated how its electoral votes are to be apportioned, and that is generally by a popular vote in each state according to custom.  The results of that process has always worked the same way.  But from what the agitators are trying to convince people is that something drastically changed in 2016.  No such thing happened.  In fact, by attempting to remove a somewhat democratically elected President, they are dishonoring democracy and the rule of law.  How then can they claim to be "saving" it?

By changing the Electoral College and thus removing the states power in deciding the outcome of presidential elections, they are eliminating the Federal character of the elections.  This will prove to be destabilizing.  Especially since a more democratically chosen means of selecting a president would invoke the instabilities of mass democracy.  The opposite result will obtain, as all democracies commit suicide.

Given the stability that this nation has enjoyed, everyone should be satisfied with a system that has worked so well for us.  It may not be 100% democratic, but it does ensure stability.  The track record of this country proves that.

Most of the opposition to the current POTUS is wrong-headed and foolish.  Perhaps worse, if certain crimes in 2016 can be proven.  One should hope that a calmer atmosphere will eventually win out, and stability will return.  An impeachment based upon such wrongful agitation should fail for the good of the country.  It is suicidal to listen to malicious people who have no intention of honoring the law of the land nor the customs of the country nor the lawful outcomes of elections.
