Cults are the latest thing

This one is now on my radar screen. Thus, I will discuss it.

The political left has gone beserk over Elon Musk. He has 71% of Democrats agreeing to the proposition that Musk should be in jail. It wasn't that long ago that Musk was the darling of the political left. He was electrifying the automobile's power plant (ICE), which AlGore called the most dangerous thing on Earth ( or something like that ). If that didn't raise him to the level of a God, then what else could for the left? The left is now outrage that the automotive God has fallen to the status of the Devil. Rational people didn't do this, and rational people won't demonize the guy because he hooked up with Trump.

Ah, and then there's Trump. The Devil du jour for the left. The left cannot stand opposition, and will not tolerate it. Trump isn't new in that regard. They did the same for George W. Bush and the papa Bushie. They would've done it to Reagan if they could've. They forced Nixon to resign. It is to be expected that there would be opposition in a democratic system, but this is beyond reason. There can be no such thing as a Loyal Opposition according to the left. Anybody who disagrees is a bad person.

Let's not exempt the so-called "right" from the discussion. The cultish impulse runs pretty strong.

But there should be accountability in the system. But there are RULES to follow. These RULES are called laws. The laws exist for a REASON. However, once cultism takes over, reason goes out the window.

Reason depends upon logic and evidence. A person guided entirely by emotion cannot be reasoned with.

You don't throw somebody in jail just because they disagree with you. You don't allow someone to be judge, jury, and executioner of somebody you don't like.. Does that ring a bell? Luigi Mangione anyone? The guy who got shot allegedly by Mangione did not get any DUE PROCESS. Due process works for everybody, or it doesn't work at all.

But wait! What about the "Maryland Man"? The Maryland Man has gotten due process already. How many times does he get due process before it counts? The Supreme Court said itself that the POTUS has the authority to deport him. What else is there to decide?

A society can be paralyzed into indecision if there are competing cults everywhere who contradict each other at every turn. Matters have to get settled. We used to have elections for that purpose. Evidently, elections don't seem to matter anymore.

But what good is an election if the election doesn't follow basic rules? What good are elections if the losing side won't accept the outcome? The left originally AGREED that Trump won the latest election. Now they are trying to overturn that result.

Something has to give. Perhaps the cultish fad is the thing that has to go. We have processes that determine guilt if laws have been violated. Even if a conviction cannot be obtained in a courtroom, a type of accountability CAN be obtained. OJ Simpson didn't get convicted of the murder of his wife and Ronald Goldman, but he wasn't in any more Hertz commercials.

It's not much, but it is better than nothing. The political left is pushing the cultish impulse. They reject reason. The reject logic. They disregard evidence. The BELIEVE things. For them, the belief matters above all else. Against this we have the potential to guide ourselves reasonably. It seems like a clear direction to follow. Otherwise, it is the rule of the jungle, which means no rules at all.

Incidentally, I posted on this before. The Vice News thing was a hit piece because it came after the Twitter acquisition. If Musk is a cult figure, it was because the left fell for it. Now they are pissed off because he's not one of them after all.

"Drinking the Kool-Aid" is a  reference to Jim Jones, who was a cult figure.  Jones was a left-winger, and you'd never guess that Kamala Harris' pedigree comes straight through Jim Jones.
