It's still a worthwhile question. The people are acting collectively, which is a socialist idea. But they own their own properties, which is a capitalist idea.
Even the Pilgrims tried socialism by making the land collectively owned. But it didn't work. Rush Limbaugh discussed this is his book "The Way Things Ought To Be".
There are admirable things about the Amish way of doing things. However, I have no great hankering to become one of them.
The average person should not look to Washington DC for answers. The Democrats are the party of top-down government, which is a really bad way of doing things.
Rather, America should be a place where the Amish can show you another way of organizing a community, and it doesn't have to involve Washington DC much, if at all. But Washington DC being the way it is, will probably try to go after the Amish in the future.
The political left may pretend to give a damn about the people, but it is all a great big fat lie.
Let the people go.
