A little more about the new blog

It's going to be pretty much like this one.  It won't be an exact copy of it.  There will be some differences.

There's something there that may be helpful in setting up a way to highlight series of posts.  For example, there was a series of posts that discussed terraforming asteroids.  I think that may be an interesting way to peruse items of interest.  Some of these posts on that subject were popular enough to be included in the best of category.   Currently, you can access them on this blog through the category label cloud on the left sidebar.  But there are so many categories that some of the interesting ones may get overlooked.

In a blog this big, with over 5000 posts, there's a lot of stuff to wade through.  A feature like this will be helpful in exploring the blog even better than ever.

It was a goal to make this blog a resource.  With these menus, I think I can make it an even better resource than what the Blogger interface allows.

This may be a tougher nut to crack than I thought.  Well, I can always emulate what I have already done on this blog.  sigh

I succeeded in getting the menu to work on the sidebar.  But there's a couple problems here that don't look like they can be solved.

1. The Blog importer will only go to July last year.  That means older series cannot be imported to the new blog.
2. Getting the links straightened out will be a big headache.  As a matter of fact, all internal links will point back to this blog, which means that it has to stay online, or the links will be broken.  Otherwise, I will have to change all links to be internal to the new blog, which will be a headache beyond belief.

Not everything is perfect with the move.  There are a few features that I will miss on Blogger.  But this blog will stay here as long as Blogger is here.
