Antonio Gramsci... a figure of high importance to the development of the left, both in Britain and the United States. 


I knew about Gramsci, but not from my University education.  Funny how that worked out...  That in order to know someone as important as that, you had to go outside the formal educational system.  Something's wrong here.

Gramsci realized that a revolution could be carried out without violence and storming the barricades. Because mind is indeed free of its material environment, what Marxists now needed to do was to “take over the institutions” and thus create a “hegemony” of revolutionary ideas, theories and values.
Now you can see what it is all about.  Why the left doesn't permit criticism.  They want a hegemony of their ideas, no dissent is to be allowed.  That is in a nutshell the very thing that is happening today with all the PC BS.

What it means is our tradition of free and open society is being threatened and is in danger of being overthrown.
