Cruz and the Natural Born Citizen clause to the US Constitution

There are many comments on the blog, but one post drew several.   This post was about this issue of natural born citizenship with respect to Obama and the potential candidacy of Marco Rubio.

One of the commenters mentioned a link to the Wikipedia entry on the subject, and I found it interesting to note:

Although Congress alone cannot change the meaning of the U.S. Constitution, given the number of Framers who then went on to serve in Congress, laws passed by the early sessions of Congress are often looked to as evidence of the Framers' intent. The Naturalization Act of 1790 stated that "the children of citizens of the United States, that may be born beyond sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born citizens: Provided, That the right of citizenship shall not descend to persons whose fathers have never been resident in the United States  [emphasis mine]
The question has been put to rest, so to speak, with subsequent Court decisions.  However, as a True Conservative, and presumably one who believes in Original Intent of the Framers, doesn't it strike one as somewhat unusual that a man born outside of the United States with a non citizen father, would claim himself to be a True Conservative?

There are some legitimate questions to put to Cruz and his supporters.  But they probably don't care about them anyway.  Their opposition to Trump isn't based upon "principles".
