He was a brother to Ridley Scott, who is also a movie director. Ridley Scott has made such films as Bladerunner and Gladiator. As for Tony Scott, the deceased, his other films included Beverly Hills Cop II and Enemy of the State.
Tony Scott jumped off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles. Witnesses say he climbed the 10 foot tall fence and jumped without hesitating. Apparently, he left a suicide note in his car. There doesn't appear to be any information about his motivation from the LA Times story, though.
It's a shame, what else can you say?
I've seen the movie, can't say that I remember much of it.
