“Haven't we learned a tremendous amount… just in the last ten years?”Not looking good. In any case, regardless of what was allegedly learned, the First Amendment prohibits the government from interfering in marriage. However, the government has already been doing that for decades, so it should not be a big surprise if it does it again.
Marriage is a sacrament. Sacrament means "sacred". Sacred means you don't mess with it. They've been messing with it all this time. How? Divorce. How is anything having to do with marriage any of the government's business?
