The impeachment circus reeks of betrayal

This impeachment really sucks.  It bounces you back and forth between worrying about it and not worrying about it.

Now I am worried about it.

Why?  The thing that worries me is that they will be unfair to the President, and then use this as an excuse to convict.  They are going to allow witnesses, which should not have happened.  There is no high crime, nor misdemeanor in the two articles.  Forget what Schiff and the other partisan Democrats say.  There is no law in the US Code that covers either of the two articles.  Schiff is framing the argument in a way that supposedly appeals to originalists.  That is to say, he is claiming that the framers intended this to be why a President could be impeached.

Unfortunately, this gives the squishes an out.  They can claim that they are only following the Constitution, which is not so.  If they did, they would dismiss this case because there is no impeachable charge.  There is no crime.  The articles admit that the President did not commit a crime.  If the Framers intended for this to be a high crime, they would have identified it as an impeachable offense.

The weak GOP Senators who fell for this argument are going to allow the trial to proceed.  That is how you know that this will be unfair to the President.  If they are consistent with this decision, then they will allow the Democrats' witnesses.  We will not get Hunter Biden, nor the whistleblower, nor Adam Schiff.  The President should get all of his witnesses.  But these will not be allowed.

Ironically, this is all being done in the name of the rule of law, but that is not true.  Evidently, those who are allowing this do not care about that.  They are going to play the Democrat's game.

That's what I am worried about.  There may not be anything that anybody can do about it without cutting off your nose to spite your face.  Punish the GOP?  The GOP is the only defense against this, but they have to win the House.  When that was lost in 2018, this was inevitable.  Some of the Democrats have said all along that they could impeach without a crime, and that is what they did.  Evidently, they also knew that the GOP would not defend Trump even if they claim to be strongly united.

The GOP is as fake as the Democrats.
