Interesting concept. One thing about this article. They say it is over 700 miles from LA to San Francisco. It is less than 400 miles.
There was a proof of concept and it seemed to work. A half mile track that it covered in less than 5 seconds. That's about an average speed of 6 miles per minute, or 360 mph. Also from a standing start. Therefore, it is fast all right.
Elon Musk wants to build one. He thinks it can be solar powered. In addition, he says he can build it for 6 billion bucks.
Compare that to the boondoggle electric train thingie they want to build. This is faster and cheaper.
