NPR makes me nervous. Does that mean I get punished for saying so? Maybe they will have me arrested and put into a sensitivity training course. In the old Soviet Union, they just put you into insane asylums for saying the "wrong" things. Same principle, just a matter of degree.

Well, what about this Juan Williams firing? When I first saw it, it kinda gave me a ho-hum impression. What's the big deal? This is not unusual for the left to silence those they don't agree with. After all, it happened to me.

Let me explain. There's this left wing blog call the Mahablog, which I like to visit sometimes. You might ask, why would a guy like me visit a lefty blog like that? The reason is that she can appear to be quite reasonable at times. There was this series of posts that she wrote called "The Wisdom of Doubt" which I thought was interesting. So here was someone on the left that I thought could be reasonable. My mistake. I posted comments there and got booted off the blog without warning at all. My Juan Williams moment. I got fired. And her explanation sounded reasonable too. But I have always suspected a deeper motive for booting me. I think it was because she wanted someone like me around to make her seem reasonable. Willing to look at both sides. But when challenged, it was hit the road Jack time for yours truly.

She is really good at it. And she does it again with her post on the Juan Williams firing. What she wrote there looks reasonable. But I've been keeping my eye on her. Not too long ago, there was this business about the Mosque at Ground Zero. Someone- I can't remember who- wrote about something that was supposed to be in the Koran that pretty much demolished the argument that Obama and the left were making in defense of the mosque. But when it came time for her to own up the point, she punted. She wouldn't go there. Now if she was right about it, she could have pointed it out, but she didn't. I think she avoided it because she didn't want to concede anything to the critics of the mosque. I think what the critics of the mosque were pointing out was consistent with the Koran. And to point this out clearly and to concede that it was true was not something she was capable of doing. It wasn't a reasonable position to take, but a biased one at the very least. One could suspect intellectual dishonesty.

I don't have evidence of this. I am relying on memory. Some may question my side of the story. All I'm saying is that I think she is not the way she seems. If she seems reasonable, I get the suspicion that something missing somewhere. Some inconsistency. Some hypocrisy. If found and challenged on it, I don't think she will own up. Not a chance. Not on her blog. But I don't fault her for that. It's her blog, she can run it any way she chooses.

I will also admit that I think she is much more well versed than I am on many topics. Yet, this doesn't make her right all the time. Those that she criticizes are not always wrong. It seems to be in contradiction to the seemingly reasonableness of her blog.

Anyway, she's neutral about NPR's actions. But if you read it closely, she seems to be in favor of it. She just doesn't want to come out in favor of it. And that lawn jockey bit, can you see any conservatives getting away with a comment like that?

I never read the blog you're talking about. My take on Juan Williams is the hypocrisy of the left. Fox is hated by liberals in an almost frenetic fashion. Fox is accused of bias towards the right and their motto Fair and Balanced is pooh-poohed by lefties whenever it is mentioned in conversation. However, all networks have Sunday talking head programs. NBC's Meet the Press, ABC's This Week, etc. Fox's entry has a panel of four, two conservative, two liberals (balanced). The liberals Juan Williams from NPR and Mara Liasson also NPR. Williams was fired by NPR and Liasson is now targeted by libs. They hate the Fox claim of fair and balanced reporting saying it isn't fair or balanced and then proceed to attempt to make it unfair and unbalanced (can you say Huffington Post)by forbidding liberal analysts to appear on Fox.Libs are unreasonable sorts and they always try to stack the deck in an argument.I say if your position is strong you don't need to cheat.Libs are cheating.

Yep. Libs don't play fair, they play to win.
