Another case of the Marxist paradigm?
This is one of my pet peeves. Why should there be a pendulum that swings back and forth? To me, it is like asking when will people start acting crazy again. "Liberalism" is just plain nutty. To me, it should never swing back and forth between nuttiness and craziness. It's best if it can stay sane on a permanent basis.
One thing that might be helpful is if we can all agree on a solid definition of what words mean. If you cannot define what a woman is, I think you've got a problem. There's a simple definition, but liberals won't like it. It is the biological one: two "X" chromosomes makes a female, the other is one "X" and one "Y". That makes a male. It should work about every time, unless there's some biological oddity from time-to-time.
If you cannot agree on what words mean, then how the heck do you communicate with each other? What does "democracy" mean? Did people actually vote to end democracy if they voted for Trump? Seriously? Are Democrats really in favor of the rule of law when they seem to want to cherry pick what laws to obey and which to resist? Trump wants to deport illegals in this country. How is that wrong if it is legal? If it is illegal, then resist it on that basis. But no. The Democrats want to resist what is legally called for. For if there are no immigration laws, then how is immigration going to be regulated?
One could go on and on with such arguments. But if there are no solid agreement on what the words mean, then what's the point? Even the word "liberal" doesn't have a meaningful definition. For today's liberals are not yesterday's liberals. If John F. Kennedy was liberal in 1960, he'd be a conservative in 2024. There's been a shift, and that cannot be denied. But what causes these shifts? The whole idea of shifts is a Marxist idea. To Marxists, there cannot be a standard, for if there were, there cannot be any revolution. The point of these shifts is to promote revolution.
Change is not necessarily a bad thing. But change for the sake of change makes no sense. Certain things, like the meanings of words, should change very slowly or not at all. If it is always changing, then how does one keep one's wits? Anyway, with respect to the question, we should not have any pendulum at all on basic principles. If we are getting back to basic foundational principles, I sure hope we stay there for a long, long time.
