Staggering numbers for Musk's Mars project

Running the numbers here, and assuming Musk reaches his goal of $2 million per flight for his Starships, the flights alone will cost an astronomical fortune over the course of the project.  $10 a pound? Wow.

$10 a pound is dirt cheap, but the staggering amount of launches he's talking about breaks the bank.

Current prices per pound could be 100 times as much.

Even the US government would flinch at such a price tag.

Where will all the money come from?

The article says that to run 100,000 Starship launches per year would mean 10 million tons per year to orbit.  That's 100 tons per launch in order to get to 10 million tons---run the numbers.  Three launches per day means a thousand launches a year per bird.  One hundred launchers in total.  Three hundred launches per day!

Two million per launch is $200 billion per year.  That is just to get to Earth orbit.  It doesn't count the costs of anything else.

Ten million tons to orbit each year would be like launching the weight equivalent of 100 Nimitz-class aircraft carriers into Earth orbit.

Er, really?

French National Anthem

The French has something of a bad reputation in the US, but check out the lyrics to their national anthem here and ask how do we compare?

Dark days

New Year's Eve

In this neck of the woods, the year is going out with a lot of rain. Not a flooding rain, but enough to fill my washtub I use for rain catchment. That's about 15 gallons of the wet stuff. It takes a good soaking rain to do that, and it is still raining.

This was the weirdest year yet, I do believe. The New Year may get even weirder. ( Is there such a word?)

There may be people out there who consider this blog to be low-class. Maybe not a pro- fessional quality. There was a time when I wanted it to be, but that time has passed. The blog is what it is. It is free. I've spent tremendous amout of time on the thing. Also some money here and there. I decided long ago not to spend a lot of money on it.

But at this point, maybe I don't think it is even worth the time. So there.

This allows me to segue into something I heard on Bongino's show today. There is a thing called "substack", in which authors like myself could use to make money with their writing. A thought occurred to me to look closely into it. I did look, but not too closely. It may be worth considering some day, but right now, I'll keep to the present course.

Besides, I don't have a big audience, so why should I have a big audience on that thing? Or any audience at all?

That may seem defeatist. If so, then so be it. I spent considerable effort to make this blog a success, and it isn't.

I write for the ideas, not the money. Enough for that little sidebar.

Bongino thinks it is crazy to sit out the Georgia run-off. Since I am not in Georgia, it doesn't matter to me anyway. If it was in Texas, would I feel the same way? It is easy to talk about things that you would do when you are not in that situation.

We need some way to discipline wayward people in government. The prospect of a humiliating defeat may concentrate some minds. Maybe they don't care anymore about holding office, but if they do, something like this may get their attention.

It may be crazy in the sense that it is like cutting off your nose to spite your face. But if they won't support us anyway, then WHY BOTHER? As Hillary once said, "what difference does it make?" For me, the GOP has to get their minds right, or they are "heestwah" to me.

I like Bongino, though. I don't want to be too critical, but I don't agree with him on this one. You got to stop feeding people who come back and bite you on the ass.

One last thing about Bongino's show today. He talked about "rods from God". This is supposedly a new type of weapon the Air Force has developed. But it really isn't new. I heard about this one when Bush was POTUS. Not really new, folks.

So that should be all for 2020. Another one like this one and who knows where we will all be this time in 2021. A really dark cloud has descended upon us, after all.

Whigging out

During the daily reading of the "news", I see that Cocaine Mitch and Nancy Schmancy are working on a deal to stop any challenge to the electoral college on Jan. 6th.

Once again, I have to ask the question, "if the thing is in the bag, why do they have to do this?"

Another question is why are they so intent upon keeping this under wraps? Ostenssibly they don't want to be seen voting against their own party. But if that is the case, the deal itself can be seen as hiding something. If they are hiding something, it must be awfully bad, don't you think? You know, like stealing elections?

Maybe Cocaine Mitch isn't having success in getting the GOP to go along with his plans. This reminds me of something I read in a book once---"Once you get past the phony tinsel, you get the REAL tinsel".

If the GOP continues along this line, they need to go the way of the Whigs.

Cover up is against Federal Election Law

My take on the Powell interview is that transparency is actual Federal Law. If Fed law was violated, then how can the SCOTUS refuse this case? It is clear that the media and their partners in crime, the Democrats and RINOS, are trying to hide the truth. That's not transparency.

Cracking the source code

Cracking the Source Code
Update: minor correction in text below.  Makes a difference.

A write-up about the National Security Threat posed by insecure voting tablulating machines. Those who do not wish anyone to see this are acting guilty of a cover-up.

Those who are innocent shouldn't act that way. That alone is a big red flag. You should not be censoring people who are asking legitimate questions.

The link doesn't say anything about foreign connections, but there were some claims of that elsewhere. If that can be proven, look out. This looks pretty damning in any case.

Dumb-da-Dumb-Dumb

The Stupid Party is outdoing even itself

Let me relate something here that I haven't done so far. With respect to the election, I seriously considered NOT VOTING. Why? That should be obvious now. The vote wasn't designed to be honest, so it should not be a surprise that it WASN'T. So why vote then? It only adds legitimacy to something that isn't. I was hoping for the best, but we got the worse instead.

So the GOP latches on the scam as they always do and claims "will of the people" when it is no such thing. They are really good at backing the wrong horse. Dumb. The right course is WE THE PEOPLE. Why do they not see this? They must be stupid or corrupt, or both.

This is one reason why the GOP really deserves the derision attached to being called the Stupid Party. They just keep putting themselves in positions that they cannot defend, and lo and behold, they won't defend their own positions. How friggin' stupid can you get? Give the GOP time and they can find new ways to be even more stupid than ever before.

With respect to the recent "COVID Relief" bill, which once again, is no such thing--the GOP is outdoing itself yet again. They have basically given the Democrats every thing they could possibly want, while at the same cementing their reputation as being against the people! Nice going you numbskulls.

The President thinks he needs these people to succeed. But that is a critical mistake. The greatest feat of all would be if the GOP's stupidity rubs off on The Donald. If he allows that, he will be even dumber than they are, which takes some doing.

Nobody wants to be the guy in the black hat. But you cannot please everyone. The price for taking a stand is being the guy in the black hat to some people. But you shouldn't want their approval if they ARE WRONG.

I get the impression that everybody in DC plays the game in order to be the guy in the white hat even when they aren't. You cannot be wrong and be the guy in the white hat.

So being in the white hat means having no blame attached to you for anything. It doesn't mean you are right, it only means ESCAPING RESPONSIBILITY. That's the game in DC. Everyone is hellbent on being IRRESPONSIBLE. Nobody wants to step up to the plate and do the right thing. This is how I define being the guy in the black hat. Doing the right thing means taking responsibility and doing what's right---not looking for ways to blame the other guy.

The GOP likes to "take responsibility" while at the same time making it impossible to defend their own claimed position. You do this by unfailingly finding things that you cannot defend and insisting upon defending them until you cannot, then you won't.

Now that really is stupid. You find your friggin' hill to die on and defend it with all you got. If you cannot win then you cannot win. But these guys end up defending nothing at all. They get into their own indefensible positions and declare defeat EVERY DAMNED time.

It is pointless to keep supporting them. They don't want to win. It isn't in them.

Fake post

Fake du jour

Well these days are quite interesting. As of this writing, I haven't read the fake news yet so I still don't know what didn't happen.

One thing to do about all this fakery is if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. So I decided to do a fake post. You see, this post isn't really here. You really aren't reading it. I know that may come as a big surprise, but it is really, really, really true. / wink

Since we really weren't happy about the results of this election, I have decided to be really, really, really happy about that. Not unhappy. We cannot have that. We cannot have real things anymore. Real things can be awfully inconvenient sometimes. A real protest, for example, may make some folks mad. We can't have any of that, now.

Same thing with a civil war. In a real civil war, somebody might get hurt. Well, that's just too gauche for us enlightened types. Besides, I can't stand pain. It hurts me.

In order to do that we can stage a fake protest followed by a fake civil war. In that case, nobody gets hurt, and we can show them a thing or two. What's there to dislike? Nobody should have a problem with that.

Earlier I said that I would resist the mask wearing. For now on, I will wear my fake mask. If anyone complains, I'll just say that I am really wearing one. And it works just as well as yours! No fooling! I wouldn't do that to you just as I really, really, really know that you wouldn't do that to me either.

If this idea catches on, we can do this for a long time. Why not? Nobody will ever get hurt. We can stage phony strikes, phony tax strikes, phony services rendered, and phony bill paying. We can serve phony food and eat up a storm, cuz we'd never get too fat.

What a concept! We can pay with phony money, which is just as good as the real thing!

Like I said, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Enjoy all this fakery cuz it cannot last.

Time is short

Time is short

If there is going to be a successful outcome here for Trump, it needs to show up soon now. There's not that much time.

I'm convinced that Dems really stole this election, and they are trying to cover it up.

Either this gets revealed soon, or it won't matter anymore.

A few tidbits that adds to my conviction. There was a couple reports out of Michigan. I think it was Michigan, by the way. But there were two reports today that kinda rattled around in my head for awhile. One of them was the report that attorneys who buck the line that Biden won may get punished by an AG. Another is that a court order was obtained to expunge evidence. Both may be in Michigan.

I'm sorry, but if these reports are true ( and why wouldn't they be since that is consistent with the way they've been acting), then they are definitely hiding SOMETHING. If they got it "in the bag" then why the need to do these kinds of things? That was the question that popped up in my head.

So things may be happening, or maybe they are not. But it sure looks like a cover-up to me. Of course, somewhere along the line and very soon, the SCOTUS MUST get involved because it is going to be hard to make a challenge work in the Congress unless you've got more than what you've got now. Enough reports like this might be the thing that can finally get them interested enough to act. But maybe not.
