Europe Does It Again: Cyprus Depositor Haircut "Bailout" Turns Into Saver "Panic", Frozen Assets, Bank Runs, Broken ATMs

Late last night, after markets closed for the weekend, following an extended discussion the European finance ministers announced their "bailout" solution for Russian oligarch depositor-haven Cyprus: a €13 billion bailout (Europe's fifth) with a huge twist: the implementation of what has been the biggest taboo in European bailouts to date - the impairment of depositors, and a fresh, full blown escalation in the status quo's war against savers everywhere. Specifically, Cyprus will impose a levy of 6.75% on deposits of less than €100,000 - the ceiling for European Union account insurance, which is now effectively gone following this case study - and 9.9% above that. The measures will raise €5.8 billion, Dutch Finance Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem, who leads the group of euro-area ministers, said. But it doesn't stop there: a partial "bail-in" of junior bondholders is also possible, as for the first time ever the entire liability structure of a European bank - even if it is a Cypriot bank - is open season for impairments. The logical question: why here, and why now? And what happens when the Cypriot bank run that has taken the country by storm this morning spreads everywhere else, now that the scab over Europe's biggest festering wound is torn throughout the periphery as all the other PIIGS realize they too are expendable on the altar of mollifying voters and investors in the other countries that make up Europe's disunion.

Why I Am Not a CPAC Conservative

just last week, after my website www.jihadwatch.org overwhelmingly won a vote for CPAC’s “People’s Choice Blog Award,” John Hawkins of Right Wing News (whether on his own initiative, as he now claims, or as the errand boy of shadowy and unnamed higher-ups, as he initially told me over the phone) told me that I was not to speak about the Muslim Brotherhood ties of Norquist and Khan when I received the award.

Comment:

CPAC is getting a glow that they don't deserve. Say a rising star like Dr. Benjamin Carson, addresses CPAC. Does that mean that Carson is somehow compromised? I'm not sure. But CPAC is compromised and any association with them is questionable.

Nevertheless, when somebody says the right things, it should be noted as such.

Update:

It should be noted, that just before his death, Breitbart addressed CPAC.

Note:

Pam Geller and Spencer ( referenced above) were not invited to CPAC. This led to some posts that I covered here that show that there's some explaining to do about that. Anyway, I did a little checking on him and found that Spencer collaborated on a book with Geller. Obviously, I didn't read the book. The book does have stuff that I've written about here, like Obama's War on America. I've already reviewed Obama's background before the election in 2008. See my book reviews in the left sidebar, near the bottom of the page.

Anyway, I considered buying the book to see what's there, but it looks like I've already written about it! I thought that I would put this note up just so that it would be clear that I'm not just parroting somebody's book.

Carson: Obama Trying to ‘Destroy the Country’

Housekeeping the blog today

This is a lot of work.

What I did was to aggregate my series by putting links to them in the right sidebar.

But the posts themselves weren't particularly good at linking to the next in the series, so I had to put in a lot of updates in each post so that they would. Now the series can be read by clicking on the link on the sidebar, and then clicking on the next in the series link now at the end of each of those posts in an update section.

Hopefully, this will aid in the goal in making the blog an easy resource to access. There's a lot of stuff here in this blog which now has over 5000 posts.

As you may have noticed, there are category labels which aid in readability. But as the blog grows, these get to be rather large in their own right. This should help make the blog easier to access.

Was it a big deal when Bush was president? It was a big deal then, but not now? What happened to change his mind?

For those who say that Obama didn't say "problem" but "crisis", there's Conyers out there saying that it is no problem for his party. For the Democrats, it's no problem. For Obama, it's no crisis. A difference with no distinction, I'd say.

Let's say that all nations in the world are worse off than we are. Then maybe, there's no crisis. But what if not all countries are experiencing debt problems. What then? It means that this country has a problem related to debt. Does China have a debt problem? If China doesn't have a debt problem, and we do, I'd say that's a problem.

Ace of Spades Blog wins award at CPAC---yawn.

Okay, they win an award. But sometimes I wonder about those guys.

There this that makes my antenna go up:

It's one thing to oppose gay marriage and whatever homosexual activists are pushing and then there's just plain old gay hate. And Cliff Kincaid of AIM sure seems to have a lot of energy when it comes to hating the gheys and wanting to root them out of the conservative movement.

Sorry. I can't agree with the Ace post here. This is just a matter of fact post that he is pointing to which says the following:

But the fate of a political party is not only what is in jeopardy. Historian Paul Johnson knows something about why nations fail, and he says one reason is the acceptance of homosexuality.

It's only the truth, you Acer's. Acceptance of homosexuality will cause a nation TO FAIL. There's no getting around this fact. Expression of this fact does not equate with hatred. Sorry. Buying into the left's premises isn't conservatism. They are already winning when conservatives are echoing their memes.

CPAC is allowing their leadership to be infiltrated by Islamist sympathizers, for Christ sake. Really, a true conservative today may not have a home anymore. If CPAC is questionable, who can you trust?

There is betrayal and evil everywhere, and I do mean everywhere.
