Story of Johnny Ringo ( Tombstone AZ fame)
This was on YouTube. What caught my eye was that Johnny Ringo was in this area in the 1870's. Maybe that should not be a big surprise. This was Commanche territory for the longest time. By the 1870's, the Commanches weren't nearly the terror they once were, but this area wasn't exactly civilized yet.

Not angry, just scared
There seems to be a never ending chicken little mentality going on right now. The latest seems to be in the form of the SpaceX critic called the Angry Astronaut.
It's time to get real scared again, folks. So here it comes. I'll embed, and then comment afterward.

Not to make too light of the concerns here, but I did detect something that he didn't mention. Maybe more than one thing.
Angry's main argument is about the possibility of a failed engine re-light after a long "cold-soak".
Let's start with the premise that it is baked in as a 10 hr. "cold soak". It may not last 10 hrs. To my knowledge, it is being constantly monitored. The "cold-soak" will last up to 10 hrs. He makes it seem like if there's an commit to orbit, it will have to last 10 hrs. Where's his evidence for that? There isn't one.
There are multiple scenarios as options in case the Starship must come down early. It doesn't necessarily mean a failed re-light is certain. That would have to mean a host of failures, one would presume. The point is that there's redundancy built-in. Multiple engines means multiple opportunities even for just one to re-light. Only one engine would be needed...
The point being that a number of things would have to go wrong in order for the worst case scenario to happen. Which brings me to his most glaring omission.
If the engines don't re-light, there's a lot of propellant onboard. The Starship can dump massive amounts of propellant and get enough thrust to slow it down. How do I know this? In earlier flights, they've had massive propellant dumps. So they've done it before. Even though this was not explicitly to return to Earth, it is being suggested as a way to soft-land on the Moon.
In other words, the engines do not have to re-light in order to get sufficient thrust to re-enter the atmosphere.
While the Angry Astronaut does seem to raise valid points, he is glossing over some important details.
So I think he's just ginning up the fear because there's an audience for the Musk-haters out there.

Yours truly used to follow Ringer a lot more closely than lately. It seems that Ringer jumped on the never-Trump wagon, and I took exception.
The Iran War has gone on too long, sure. But Iran is getting a lot of help.
Anyway, I haven't visited Ringer site for awhile, and I returned. His next post after the one I took issue with sounds more like the Ringer I thought I knew. The trouble is, what if your crticisms are off the mark???
The criticism of the free traders is that tariffs are not the kind of thing we should be doing. The premise isn't exactly faulty, but the assumption of "free" is definitely faulty. As can be seen if one goes to the CTH site, which explains that the markets are being manipulated. It isn't free, therefore. It is awfully damned convenient for the lefties to have the markets go haywire just in time for the elections. It has happened before, and now it is happening again. However, if we have some luck, and if we explain ourselves well enough, we may be able to demonstrate that the markets aren't fee after all.
Therefore, tariffs are justified. The trade war with our "allies" is not something unwarranted, nor came out of the blue. If the markets aren't truly free, and are being rigged, then something must be done to make them more fair. Thus, you have tariffs.
I have never believe the Milton Friedman line that we should find it "wonderful" if other countries were willing to accept our dollars in exchange for goods. The thing that gets lost is our capacity to produce. This will have very bad results over time. The results have been a hollowing out of our economic base. Tariffs have been a means to redress that harm.
The doctrinaire opinion is that tariffs cause inflation. One thing that I still agree with Milton Friedman---inflation is a monetary phenomenon. It isn't caused by what they'd like to blame--the Iran War; but it IS caused by some entity that is rigging the price over the short term in order to manipulate public opinion, and to influence elections.
Therefore, raising interest rates are not going to help. In fact, it may well cause harm.
The FED is a problem too. Evidently replacing the FED chairman was not enough. The FED isn't pursuing policies that are in our interest. To the contrary, they are doing the opposite.
We need to question the conventional wisdom. It doesn't help to have sacred cows.
Ringer may have some, and it is not necessarily helpful at the moment.

1) Duration of the war: response: The "war" has paused for longer than the actual hostilities took place. There's been a ceasefire for quite some time, but the detractors keep calling it a "war".
2) Trump is probably guilty of hyperbole. With regard to "no more targets left to bomb", this is probably a bit of hype. You could say the same about Ringer's criticisms. Does Trump have to be 100% accurate in every single thing he says. If he was, almost everybody will have to go out of business.
3) He has a list of other quotes that fit the same pattern. Point made. I think we all get it.
He does list some of Trump's achievements here, to be fair. I want to be fair. Maybe being a better communicator, we can all start by being fair with the criticisms.
There are indeed some good communicators. Maybe could say even GREAT ones. One of those is The Conservative Treehouse.
Some may think of CTH ( Conservative Treehouse) as a Trump shill. But it isn't. Even if you think it is partisan Trumpist, the points are quite often valid nonetheless.
Of course, I support Trump. Of course, I've had my frustrations. But the guy delivers more often than not. For that reason, I say 'criticism is okay, but be fair about it.' Sometimes, I've hyped the criticism of Trump myself. But I'm dialing the hype back. In constrast, the left doesn't tolerate any criticism at all. We should not be like them. But we shouldn't overdo it. Rein it in a bit, but don't go to war just over a relatively minor point.
The left is victim of its own groupthink. They aren't stupid. Indeed, groupthink can happen even among some very intelligent folk. There's more than one way to be stupid. Forcing yourself into groupthink is really dumb, ya'll.
Trump should explain his economic agenda a bit better. The American System has a long history in this country, so it isn't something Trump pulled out of his hat. It is more like a Hamiltonian approach to industrial strength. America has all but abandoned home-grown industry. That has to change, and Trump is doing that. That is one of the reasons I support the guy.
His speaking is easy to forgive because his faults are not that big of a deal to me.

There needs to be an answer.

Prices are near $100 a barrel again, and that doesn't make a lick of sense. If pricing was following supply and demand, then current prices seem too high to me. The reasons given sound like a load of bull, too.

Something here doesn't add up. That's all I want to say on that.
It has a bad smell to it. Where that smell is coming from is what we should be finding out about.

I'd bet less than 1 in a million will know the true reason why we are on the wrong track.
If I'd guess about the zeitgeist, the majority might say that the rich is getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. This is misleading. The truth is that everybody is getting poorer, but the rich suffer the least. So, the resentment focuses in on the rich. Taxing the rich more isn't the answer anymore than killing the goose that lays the golden egg will produce more golden eggs.
I think that we are on the wrong track because the zeitgeist has drunk the kool aid of the Limits to Growth crowd. So, we end up with politicians who want to spread the wealth as opposed to creating new wealth. What we get is less wealth and more equality, but that equality comes at a fearful price. That price will get more and more fearful as the Limits to Growth philosophy becomes hard wired and institutionalized. We are almost there now.
This Limits to Growth zeitgeist has all but rejected nuclear power. But the rejection of nuclear power all but guarantees that future growth will become impossible. Read the link above to see my reasoning upon this subject. Boiled down to its most salient point is this: an advanced society requires kinetic energy, which can only be supplied by nuclear energy. The physics of this cannot be willed out of existence. It cannot be bargained with or reasoned with. It cannot be fudged. There is no other way to continue growth but by embracing nuclear energy. It's all in the physics.
So, we have to make a choice. Go backwards into chaos and self-destruction, or forward into a new golden age of growth and prosperity. The way towards that is nuclear energy. It is against the paradigm at the moment, but that can change. The only way to change that paradigm is to get the message out. You can be sure that the Limits to Growth crowd do not want this message to get out.
Where did the Limits to Growth idea come from? Was it one of the Frankfurt School ideas? It has been long known that Marxism seems to take root amongst the poor nations as opposed to the richer nations. As a nation prospers, so does the allure of Marxism.
The Frankfurt School came into being because of this fact. It wasn't supposed to be that way. The Revolution was supposed to be in the rich nations.
So the Marxists started trying to tear down the rich nations. Lo and behold, the USA, being a rich nation, has to be convinced that its properity is a bad thing. So now the population has been indocrinated in this Limits to Growth, and whaddaya know? The USA has suffered from low growth from all these years. It is almost as if that was somebody's IDEA.
So now we've got AI threatening to create all kinds of new properity, and these Marxists just cannot have that. Hence the leftist attack on AI.
Make no mistake. AI just might get DANGEROUS. So can fire. But we didn't abandon fire. If it wasn't for fire, we'd be living in caves with no hope of ever getting out of the caves.
In other words, there's trade-offs. The Marxists don't want us to abandon AI. Nope, they want to control us with FEAR. Then they can control how much the world will grow. It will only grow as much as the Marxists think they need it grow.
Marxists didn't abandon fire. They didn't abandon electricity. They didn't abandon the airplane. Or the internet. Or anything else. But they sure as hell want to be in control. It is about power with the Marxists. If they want to scare people about AI, it is only because they fear losing control.

Why Trump seems unpopular
Not too long after 9-11, blogs were a new thing. It is also before Twitter and Facebook came along and sucked all the oxygen out of the room. There was a guy named Bill Whittle, and he wrote a piece in his blog, which was called Eject! Eject! Eject!
It was largely about the tribes people are in. He called them pink and grey. The pink tribe is basically the left. The grey tribe is basically the so-called right.
Rather than rehash all he said, I want to focus in on a particular stretch of the rather long essay. He spoke of the Vietnam Colonel who said there were basically 3 kinds of people. He said there were 1) wolves 2) sheep, and 3) the sheep dogs.
As you might expect, he pointed out that the wolves feed upon the sheep without mercy. It is the sheep dog that guards the sheep. One thing about the sheep dog. The sheep don't like the sheep dog. The sheep dog seems a lot like the wolf. But the sheep dog never harms the sheep. The sheep dog protects the sheep.
I remember this passage and I think of Trump. Why don't people like Trump? The reason is that he seems too much like the wolf. He does mean Tweets, for heavens sake. The sheep are as frightened of the sheep dog as they are of the wolf. Perhaps the sheep do not understand that sheep dog means no harm, and actually to the contrary. I see Trump like the sheep dog. The folks just don't appreciate the guy, and what he is doing for the country.
Instead, they'd rather listen to the wolves in sheep's clothing. That would be the commies. It isn't the Democrats. There was a time when Democrats weren't out and out wolves. But they now taste the sheep's blood, and they're developing a taste for it. Beware the wolves in sheep's clothing.
The commies are making something of a mistake though. They are being a bit too blunt about their intentions. When James Carveille said to add two states and pack the Supreme Court, then the sheep SHOULD'VE recognized the wolf shedding his sheep costume. That was a grab for power that only a wolf would even think of.
When 9-11 happened, people were looking for a sheep dog. That is where the sheep will instinctively turn when they sense they're in danger. They sure as hell didn't turn to the Democrats. The Democrats have turned to a wolfish state that the commies inhabit. You cannot tell the difference anymore. Indeed, there isn't any difference.
Trump is helping the country. The liars, meaning commies, are trying to convince you to be afraid of the sheep dog. This is a misdirection intended to fool you into trusting them. If they can make a grab for power like this, they should NEVER be trusted.
The Constitution was written in such a way that the sheep can be productive and FREE. The wolves intend to take away the Bill of Rights and the Checks and Balances, which keep the government in check. Why would anything but a wolf want to do away with those protections?

Texas was admitted as a state via a joint resolution
A short post here to correct some misconceptions about how Texas entered the Union. I've seen it around that folks think this was done by treaty, but a treaty for this end FAILED.
When James K. Polk was elected President in 1844, since he was elected on an expansionist platform, an admission to the Union by treaty could not be accomplished. So another way had to be found, and the Joint Resolution was the solution to that problem.
Why the misconception? Since I'm rather suspcious these days, I'd say someone put it out there deliberately so as to mislead people.
I asked the AI about it, and confirmed it. I figured I knew my Texas History well enough, but a fellow Texan didn't.
If Texans don't know this, how can the rest of the country know it??
Not that that is any excuse.
Can the Democrats add states through joint resolution? Yes, but the AI says that the President can veto it.
Let me tell ya, if there's a way to get around that, the Democrats will look for it.

Why the misconception? Since I'm rather suspcious these days, I'd say someone put it out there deliberately so as to mislead people.
I asked the AI about it, and confirmed it. I figured I knew my Texas History well enough, but a fellow Texan didn't.
If Texans don't know this, how can the rest of the country know it??
Not that that is any excuse.
Can the Democrats add states through joint resolution? Yes, but the AI says that the President can veto it.
Let me tell ya, if there's a way to get around that, the Democrats will look for it.
The safe thing is not to elect them until they stop this kind of nonsense.
People need to take this seriously.

The Bongino Show, ep. 2596
Here's another jip. I skipped over the intro, and got down to business. Bongino
asks, what are these guys doing (meaning the Democrats)? It seems that they have nothing real to run on. So they dance and so forth. This is in contrast with Trump, who actually DOES things.
Trump has accomplished real things, but what do the Democrats want to do other than to put the opposition in jail, or to take away any opposition to them at all. Meanwhile, they want to do away with your Bill of Rights, and make voting meaningless, because they'll always win.
