Alberta

Well, it is kinda late at nite, and my mind is going like gangbusters.

It doesn't happen all the time, because if it did, I'd never get any sleep.

What to do about this? Just pick up and write. So here I am.

The thing I want to write about is the recent election in Alberta. They rejected separation from Canada, and by a large margin.

The initial reaction might be pretty negative, but on second thought, it may be understandable why they did it. This would be true even if Alberta really wanted to leave, but could't.

The problem with Alberta's situation is what would come next. The USA isn't going to approve statehood for Alberta. Nor would they for any Canadian province, should any of them want to join the Union.

Now this next part is just my opinion, mind you. Even if the USA wanted to annex Canada, this country is in an unstable situation itself. To join the USA could be like jumping from frying pan into the fire. The USA could be about to go straight to hell. Someone watching this from another country might well see this better than we see it ourselves. They could be asking themselves, why would we want to join up with THAT????

You could on either side of the political divide and have second thoughts about this issue. So yes, I can see why they rejected the referendum, and chose to remain where they are. It may not be a good spot to be in, but it could be a lot worse.

That's all I've got to say on that. Except one more thing I just thought of. We should not want them to join the Union unless they are a solidly conservative place. I'm not too sure that these places even exist anymore, not even here in Texas. We are about to find out something soon here, too. I hope the worst doesn't come, but it might. It worries me.
