At the conclusion of World War Eleven ( the name of that war according to Minnesota Congress-woman Ilhan Omar ), a certain Lt. Colonel refused to accept defeat. He remains defiant until the facts on the ground were explained to him by none other than General Patton.
That's how the video goes, anyway. Perhaps such did take place. But if it did, it is doubtful that there weren't any interpreters present as well. This video makes it look like everyone understood each other without the need of interpreters.
Otherwise, the parallel with current times is instructive. Iran has been beaten. But they are scrambling for a way to maintain their "arrogance".
The facts on the ground in Iran do not support their position.
There's a movie that can be viewed on Tubi ( I think ). It is about Japan's behavior directly after the surrender. Many of them refuse to accept their defeat, while maintaining their arrogant poses. The link refers to the movie "Emperor", with Tommy Lee Jones playing the role of General Douglas MacArthur. The movie's drama showed the need to get cooperation from the Japanese, but if the Japanese refused to accept their defeat even after surrender, the country could be reduced to utter ruin. The Japanese Emperor had to intervene and accept a visit with MacArthur in order to move forward from the war towards peace and reconstruction.
Does Iran have to be utterly destroyed? Only if their leaders refuse to accept defeat. The facts on the ground say that America can reduce Iran to utter destruction, and that Iran cannot stop it. So we'll see if that is the course that the Iranians intend to take. They will have no one other than themselves to blame if that occurs.
