Now that I have some time to catch up a bit, I have another thought. Here is someone with a different opinion than mine with respect to the markets. I got about a third of the way through it before I thought: WRONG!
Recessions aren't just market events anymore in an economy that is so dominated by the government.
If the stock market tanks, people are going to feel the losses. When they do, they are going to be apt to blame someone. Most likely, they will blame Trump. That has been the history here. The public tends to side against the guy even on the most flimsy of accusations.
If the Democrats believed what this opinion writer said, or thought that they would be blamed, then why would they do something like this? Of course they think they will benefit. That is why they are doing it!
Either the Dems are wrong or they are right. I am inclined that on this point, the Dems are more right than wrong. On about everything else, I think they are wrong. That means that there is no merit to their accusations. It doesn't mean that impeachment is warranted when I say that they are right. It means that they have at least a 50-50 chance of succeeding with their stunt.
As usual, conservative types ( including me ) tend to think in terms of our superior arguments. But as I have noted again and again. Arguing with the wolf is a waste of time. The public isn't inclined to sacrifice their comforts for such niceties as freedom and the Bill of Rights. If they do, we wouldn't have gotten to this point.

I think it is the third Red Alert I have posted.
Why now?
The stock market is going down now. The stock market is volatile. It will move on uncertainty like this. It could result in big paper losses. What does that all mean? It introduces the sense of stress on the system.
As mentioned, the polls seem steady. But will they hold steady as this intensifies? I am guessing that is what the Democrats have played for.
It is an alert because the system cannot endure for a long period of time such a state of uncertainty. The uncertainty is what is stressing the markets, and that in turn is what will distress the public.
The Dems know this, and that is what they are playing for. They are making outrageous demands, and if they are not met, these will be added to their articles of impeachment. How long they will play this out depends on timing, I suppose.
What can the President do? He is pretty much at the mercy of the Establishment in DC. Basically, this is an coup against the public. The public elected this man, but the Establishment won't let him be President. Nor will they let him win another 4 years. For if he does, that will be the ruin of them, and they know it.
It is an open question as to whether or not he can keep enough support in the Senate in order to avoid removal from office. That makes two questions.
Finally, they will do everything within their power to steal the election. That is already been demonstrated here in Texas.
It is now nearly 2pm in the Central Time Zone USA. I have been away from the screen for the past 2 hours or so. I have not had the opportunity to read the most recent developments.
I think this is a crisis situation now.
