Just got back from the San Jacinto Battleground.  I went there to take some pictures. The location really isn't unfamiliar with me since I've been there many times before.  But this time, I decide to look around the park and get the lay of the land.  I took several pictures ( about 25 ) of the various markers which show the disposition of the opposing forces on that day in 1836.

I wanted to get the feel for the situation on the ground just before the battle.  How did Santa Anna manage to get beaten so badly?  It was more of a slaughter than a battle.  Sam Houston's army didn't suffer that many casualties; hardly more than a handful.  On the other hand, Santa Anna lost hundreds of men and/ or hundreds more captured.

No doubt, the element of surprise figured significantly in the outcome of the battle.  But looking over the terrain, it is hard to see how anyone could manage to surprise anyone else.  The land is very flat and the grass and bushes don't provide much cover.

I recall reading that Houston's army used a "rise" as cover.  I looked for these and didn't find many, but there are some places that are low.  Of course, the closer you get to the marshes, the more cover there is.  Unless Houston's army was hanging out in the marshes, he didn't have all that much cover.

Another possiblity was the tall prairie grass that grew in those days.  The park management is trying to bring that back, but it is still too low to the ground.  In those days, the tall grass couldn't have shielded a larger force than what would appear to be the case today.

The battleground doesn't look all that large in area.  But one has to keep in mind that they didn't have cars in those days.  I found out the distances when walking around the park a bit.  Things have a different scale when you are on foot.

Sam Houston was shot out from under his horse in the midst of battle.  There was a marker there to indicate the spot.  Just a hundred yards away or loss is another marker for the position in which a cannon was in place.

That seems pretty close range for a cannon.  But Houston was hit by a bullet in his ankle.  Given the surprise, the Mexican army may not have had time to get off a cannon shot.

Of course, there is the legend of the Yellow Rose who distracted the Mexican general with her charms.

Note: this picture wasn't taken today.  I took it several months ago.

What a misfortune for Mexico to have that kind of failure as a leader.  On the other hand, the Texians were lucky.  There was at least one other General in Texas during that war who would not have made that mistake. Just goes to show what could happen when the wrong man is in charge.

Santa Anna was captured.  And Fannin and his men were massacred at Goliad under Santa Anna's orders.


Both are examples are poor leadership and its consequences.

Hostile takeover of the American mind

This is fairly well-written, which surprises me a bit. Did I really write this?

Almost everything these days is suspicious. Perhaps I was more capable in 2012 than now. Nevertheless, it is a good summarization of what has happened. Furthermore, most events are most likely manufactured. Historical events, such as the Great Depression, World War II, recessions, "pandemics", and the like. The ordinary folks are like sheep being herded into pens. What could the ultimate end game for these manipulations? That's why I'm suspicious of everything, including this post, supposedly written by me.

People are like children. They believe what they are told by the "betters". This is true until the kiddoes grow up. Then there's a rebellion. What form will the rebellion take? The permanent and hopelessly naive but dangerous commies, or will the traditional American entrepreneurial Republicans re-assert themselves?

Perhaps the "rebellion" is also a manufactured event? How are these events manufactured? The Federal Reserve Bank can create recessions in order to "stop inflation". The Federal Reserve Bank can create inflationary spirals, which make it necessary to create a recession. These events are accomplished through monetary policy. The sheep demand change, but the sheep are just being herded into the next pen.

Likewise, the "pandemic" is manufactured through the biological lab. It is hyped as a pandemic in order to force out the "rebellion" of one Donald J. Trump. Once removed and discredited, the hostile takeover will have no meaningful oppositon. That's been the pattern for the last century.

As of 2026, the Trump Era is coming to an end. No way Trump can continue as President from a legal standpoint. The loose talk of a third term won't maintain the credibility that the Constitution actually means anything anymore. So Trump will have to step down in 2029. Or if earlier, forced out. Then the takeover can be completed. The left will pack the courts, rig the elections forever, and enforce their will upon the public that cannot be broken without violence. Such was the necessity with King George III of England.

What does the future hold? Down to the anthill of totalitarianism, or up to the ultimate in freedom consistent with order in a civilized society. Reagan said something like that in his famous speech that launched his political career. Reagan was saying that the "political spectrum" is a fake. The opposites are not right against left, but freedom against tyranny. Will freedom last, or will the usual history of suffering mankind be repeated? And so it goes...

That's a rather bold statement as a title.  To back it up, consider this:

• 9th Circuit overturns CA ban on gay marriage:  This has happened many times.  The voters of California have attempted to assert their will, only to be thwarted by the courts.
• Obama Stimulus Turns Three: What Has It Achieved?:  We are told constantly that the economy is improving, but by many measures, it has gotten worse.  Why the disconnect between reality and what is being reported?  The propaganda of the so-called mainstream media is geared toward helping Democrats, not towards honest reporting.  The public doesn't get the truth, and the Democrats are not held accountable.
• Obama amasses $240M warchest:  Big money is dominating our politics.  But the Democrats, who complain the loudest about this, are the ones who benefit the most.  The most "electable" Republican, Romney, also has the deepest pockets.  All of the money goes into their campaigns that do not enlighten nor inform the public.  Elections are being bought.  People are not being persuaded, but herded.
• Public Sector Unions:  They have a vested interest in growing the government.  It supplies them with jobs and political power.  They are big contributors to Democrat causes, which are not necessarily compatible with public opinion, but with their own special interest.  These used to be illegal, but are now dominating states like California.  Attempts to rein them in are furiously opposed, as can be observed in Wisconsin.
• Jewish Community Should Join Catholics Against the Mandate:  The Democrats are hostile towards religion, except their own version of secularism.  On the one hand, they pretend to be in favor of the separation of church and state, but on the other, they try to separate people from their faiths.  Then, they indoctrinate young people into their own beliefs while these young people attend the public school system.  The separation of church and state morphs into a separation of churches from the people and the establishment of a state religion.
• Update:  I found another example:  Campaign against Canadian Keystone XL pipeline driven by US foundation millions  ---- quote: "Concerns about that lack of transparency found their vent on Feb. 9 when Brian Jean, a Conservative member of the Canadian Parliament, called for legislation to ban deep-pocketed foreigners from bankrolling what he called Canada’s “radical” green movement."

None of this is an accident.  It is all designed to accumulate more and more power into the hands of the powerful that is determined to overthrow the current order.  The people do not want this, but are being herded into it by this big money and their allies in the government.

The Republican party is not much help.  They like the money too and get corrupted by it.  They end up corrupting the people and help the Democrats toward entrenching this kleptocracy until it will become an unstoppable tyranny.

A thought: Guilt-tripping is suicidal empathy?  Update:   Probably not.  Continue:Most folks know about white guilt. It was spoken of during the Obama campaign in 2008. "White folks are so bad that they cannot be allowed to exist"--I've seen something like that on the web.

I can figure non-whites getting into that kind of hate-mode. But why would white people do it, or allow themselves to be brainwashed into it?

Maybe because they think it makes them good people. They're not good. They're stupid.

There is a girl from Germany who posts on YouTube. She talked about Adolf Hitler and World War II. When she got to the history of the event, she said something that reminded me of all the guilt tripping that has been laid upon the West. This is communist inspired, I suspect.

As usual, the left doesn't care about the Holocaust. They just want to use it as a political device that can gain them more power. Once you recognize this tactic, you may be able to start counter-acting it. Without any counter, you are totally defenseless against it.

There was a video posted here about how Hitler overthrew the Weimar Republic. The same kind of tactics are being employed today, which is quite an irony. The left wants to impose guilt so that they can get you to disarm yourselves, and become completely subjugated to their will. Hitler disarmed all Germans, it should be noted. Hitler had his Brownshirts. Hitler used his Brownshirts to quell opposition. At the end of the Weimar Republic, Hitler's Nazi Party was declared as the only legal party in Germany. As a coup de grace, Hitler had all allegiance sworn to him PERSONALLY.

Hitler's Brownshirts were led by a notorious homosexual, Ernst Roehm. When Roehm was no longer useful to him, he had Roehm liquidated. A Christian would not have done that. The commies have the homosexuals believing that Hitler was a Christian, and that Christians would have all homosexuals sent to the concentration camps and gassed. All fascists must be Christians, so all Christians are super guilty because they caused Hitler to come to power. Or so it goes.

Germany was put through a huge, huge guilt trip. That has spread all over the West. We are constantly reminded of the past, and how the West colonized the world. The West was responsible for slavery and degradation of the environment. You get the picture. All of this inspires GUILT. Guilt must be expiated somehow. What better way for an enemy to destroy you than to get you to blame all evil on your own existence? Then you commit suicide, as this is the only way to bring justice for all the harm you allegedly did. This is what is happening to the West. The West is characterized as evil, and the only justice is for it to be eradicated.

The appropriate way to address what Hitler did was not to go on some super duper guilt trip. It is to rationally deduce what went wrong, and to correct it so that it won't happen again. Evidently, that isn't happening, for many of the same things that brought down the Weimar Republic are happening right here in the USA this very day.

The US Supreme Court had the chance to address the issue of oaths of office in the elections controversy. They refused the case. If this was addressed, then the oath of office would be treated seriously, which it is not. If it is not treated seriously, then what prevents a private oath of loyalty, such as the one to Adolf Hitler, from being made? The Supreme Court failed us. If there is no importance to the oath, then what inspires loyalty to the document? Anything at all? If there's no loyalty to the founding document, then what is going to preserve it? This could explain the rapidly deteriorating civil liberties that is found in the USA today. If the oath is not preserved, then what preserves the right to vote, the right to free speech and association, and the rest of the Bill of Rights?

The political left has gotten a lot of political mileage out of the guilt tripping. These people make it a religion to feel so guilty. They feel holier than thou when they feel so guilty. But they solve nothing that caused what happened in Germany in the Third Reich. The errors that brought the Nazis to power are being repeated this very day. American democracy and freedom will not be preserved, because that is the Big Lie. The Big Lie is what the Nazis liked to employ, and that is being repeated here as well. The Big Lie is that the left cares about Democracy and Freedom. They only seek to use these words as a means to power. This is what they care about.

Wake up America.

Aaron Sorkin has joined in the kick Palin chorus.  It's the old emotional manipulation of laying out the old guilt trip. Sorkin wants Palin to feel ultra guilty.

Sorkin was furious that the documentary showed Palin hunting and killing a caribou. Although she made it clear that she intended to eat the animal, according to Sorkin, she had committed an act of murder and torture. 

Notice how it has to be justified on the grounds that the animal had to be eaten in order for this to be acceptable.  But even that justification isn't even acceptable to Sorkin, who wants to push vegetarianism, if one is to take this to it logical conclusion.

Why does Palin have to justify herself to Sorkin?  Why should Palin have to justify herself in hunting caribou for whatever reason?  Who cares what Sorkin thinks?  Evidently, there are those who do.  Hence, the technique is used because it works.

The left can use this tactic in order to manipulate others.  It only works if you accept their moral authority.  But who gives Sorkin or any others like him the moral authority?  Question their authority, I say.  They don't have any unless you recognize it.

GOP: Reform or Die

Somebody clicked on this one, amongst others. I decided to respond to this one.

Love him, or hate him; Trump is the closest thing to reform of the electoral politics of this country that I've seen. He's offering something truly different, and through it all, the country seems to resist. That is, much of the country seems to resist. You can count on the Democrats to resist, but what about the GOP? He has a lot better chance of winning than what they had, in my opinion.

Here is a public that seems to want change, and is getting it. But the public still isn't satisfied. I say give it some more time. With all the opposition to Trump, he really hasn't been able to get a program under way.

That's no excuse. It's just fact. If Trump wasn't really different, then why all of this opposition? Trump's mistake may be in changing TOO MUCH. People may need time to catch up. If he gets the chance, he will succeed, in my opinion. But will the people let him?

The attention may be on Trump now, but Obama was POTUS when this post was written. The left may only be interested in political situations that run against them. If anything is radicalized, it is the Democrat party. Obama associated with communists, after all. Nazis were defeated decades ago.

This seemed like pure projection to me, but as the Supreme Court has shown, the projection and denial is going all round.

I read this yesterday, and Glenn Reynolds posted his reactions to this piece.  One reaction was to be "unimpressed".

The major aspect of projection is that it denies something that is within oneself.

Plain denial is also the refusal to see what is there.

How can conservative justices support Obama's usurpation of the Constitution?  Well, it might well have started a long time ago.  Maybe the Bush-Gore election controversy, where this Atlantic piece picks up on, is just one strand in a long strand that is coming unraveled.  It looks like The Atlantic's piece was projection, and the conservative/libertarian response is just plain old denial.

Obama won't follow the law, which he is bound to do under the constitution.  That's the coup.  It is ongoing, but evidently, nobody at the highest levels seems to get it.

I followed the 2000 election controversy pretty closely.  No way Gore could win that one, but if the Supreme Court hadn't stepped in, it was going to have to go the Congress.  In such a case as that, the House picks the winner, and the Senate picks the Veep.  That meant Joe Lieberman would have been veep instead of Cheney.  The House was Republican, so there's no way Gore could win the presidency that way.

The Supreme Court just stopped the counting which could have gone on past the "safe harbor" deadline, which was very close at hand at the time of their decision.  The counting wasn't going to get done in time to get in before the safe harbor deadline, which would have thrown it into the House- by law.  The Republicans controlled the House, (as Gore must have known), but the Senate was 50-50.  Gore would have broken the tie in favor of Lieberman, weakening the incoming administration.

The Supreme Court then may have acted politically, but at least they were following the election law.  They don't seem to be very interested in doing that anymore.

As for the rest of the article, it is pretty much the standard political fare.  The author's major rhetorical thrust was the Bush v Gore decision was a type of long running coup, but it was Gore who was trying to steal the Vice Presidency if he couldn't get the Presidency itself.  That's my take.

The main point to me is the total breakdown in authority that is outlined in the Constitution.  There are three co-equal branches, but at the moment, the only branch that seems to matter is the Presidency.  That looks like dictatorship.   The President must follow the law, or what good is the Constitution anymore?  Why have a Congress pass a law that the President won't enforce?  Why have the Supreme Court decide the controversy, if the President decides to ignore the part of the decision that he doesn't like?

At what point will this President be restrained?  If he gets re-elected, what can stop him?

The source of our rights is not the government, but the Democrats would like to enforce their views to the contrary

I read a lot of stuff on the web. It wasn't until now that I learned about "privileged" bills from the House. Why is that? That is why I posted this. Perhaps it is not well-known how a small minority can stop the public will from being expressed. Think of it. Just a handful of these people can prevent a bill's passage that has support of close to 80% of the public. And the Democrats are about Democracy??? Hah!

This is how propaganda works.

  It's called card stacking.  Nadler asks a "have you stop beating your wife" question, and refuses to let Bondi answer.  The pinkos want their sound bite to go viral.

  There's a lot of supposed discontent out there about Pam Bondi.  Maybe she could do better, but this was a real sh!tshow.  She let her emotions get out.  There wasn't any need to get emotional, but I can forgive that.

  The truth of the matter is that the commies cannot allow her to answer the questions.  They only want the answers they want.  But the best answer ( assuming Pam Bondi had one) was that any charges brought forth in DC will not result in a indictment from a super commie jurisdiction that won't return an indictment no matter what the evidence is.  It's just the way things are in DC, so it isn't Bondi's fault that DC is full of friggin' lying pinkos.

  I say supposedly upset at Bondi.  Everyone who knows what the deal is knows what I'm saying is true, but want to complain about Bondi for some strange perverse reason.

 In other words, they are "virtue signaling".  Or to put it more bluntly, they are just as big of a liar as the Dems.  Indeed, I think they are totally full of it, just as the Democrats.  If they really gave a flip about it, they'd actually DO something NOW, instead playing these sh!tshow games.

  Who are "they"? They are probably the never-Trumpers, who like to pretend to be all for the agenda, but vote against anytime that it matters.  I'm thinking guys like John Cornyn.  Very especially John Cornyn.  I have had an intense dislike of this guy for the longest time.  Now that it is time to run his worthless ass out of DC, a whole lot of these type of characters are joining with the Dems in running these sh!tshows.  That is what I mean, and there are those who know exactly what I'm talking about.

Texas Special Election

 

  Here's an op-ed that will be embedded as a web-page inside this post.  This technique isn't always successful, so it will bear watching.  If the New York Post blocks it, it will have to come down, but the link to it will remain.

  So, I blog-splained enough for this post.

  As for the content of the op-ed, there is a lot of hand-wringing of the poor turnout from the GOP for the special election.  It also involved a Congressional seat that should've remained with the GOP.   It was held in a "ruby-red" district.  However, the turnout was terrible.  The Dems on the other hand, showed up and snatched away the Federal seat in Congress, as well as a Texas Senatorial seat.

  Not very encouraging ya'll.  The news doesn't look good either, as the Democrats managed to win the budget battle that has just taken place in DC over the shutdown.  No doubt this ridiculous showing has the GOP base in a tizzy.

  If this keeps up, DC might as well fly the hammer and sickle flag soon.  The GOP needs to get its poo-poo together and fast.

  In the end, it may only serve the Dems as a temporary propaganda victory.  If the GOP has the base fired up and willing to show for this special election, the Dems would've lost.  Therefore, there's not necessarily all that much at stake here; however it is indeed a shot over the bow for the GOP.  If they won't get it together, they're going to disappoint in the fall.

   If you are frustrated by the lack of accountability of the Deep State for their crimes, here's a video for you.

  It's kinda interesting to me that Trump keep nominating people who screw him over.

  But it doesn't really surprise me that the GOP is pretty useless.

  He needs the GOP as long as the GOP is willing to back him up.  But when the GOP feels confident enough that they can completely abandon Trump, they'll probably do it.

  Another curious thing is the polls. Trump really has done a lot of pretty good stuff, but for some reason, the polls don't show any appreciation from the public. So if the polls are actually accurate, which I doubt, then that is quite a puzzling thing.

  The Democrats are definitely bad.  Even if the GOP is no better, they cannot be obvious about it.  Which means the kind of deception that the GOP runs is of a different character.  The Democrats are definitely bad, but the GOP is sneaky bad.

Not exactly what I had in mind

 

  Looks like a number of GOP congresscritters voted against the proposed bill defunding some rogue judges.

  This looks bad, but maybe not so bad once you consider that it won't pass constitutional muster.  The Constitution says you cannot mess with their compensation, if I am not mistaken.  You may be able to defund their staff positions, but not the judge's salary itself.

  A better move would be to remove jurisdiction.  Besides, there's not enough of a majority to do anything anyway.  The GOP may not even have a majority right now.  This stuff is just for show.

  The political climate right now is pretty goofy.  Not much worth commenting upon, but this is worth some attention.   They need to get smarter, not louder.

Free market wins (this time)

One of the most amazing things to me about the Chick-Fil-A appreciation patronage is that private citizens are waging a free market battle against progressivism. While progressives want to use government to shut down diverse thought, conservatives don't. Conservatives will counter progressive boycotts with massive buying power, as seen yesterday. We don't need regulations or legislation. Conservatives battled progressivism within the private sector over Dan Cathy's free speech and conservatives won. Consider Vante's action another free market move.

But the free market can't win if the socialists take over.  You won't have the freedom to resist.

GOP isn't worth a bucket of warm spit

  This is an election year, and the posturing has begun.  That is my initial take.   On further examination, I note that a candidate for Texas' highly contested Senate seat, a certain Rep. Wesley Hunt, did not vote. Personally, I take that as a negative. But who knows with the GOP?

  It looks to me like a party of super-squishes.

  They may even eventually pass the stupid bill.

  Can you count on the Senate?  Maybe.  But it shouldn't have gotten that far.
