Propaganda

Propaganda is the word today. I won't be linking to any sources, but there are a few out there in case anybody's interested.

Propaganda is defined loosely as bias. The news media, which is called here "Pravda" media, has been called biased for years. However, it is not necessarily called propaganda. It may be time to start calling it that.

Propaganda has not always been looked upon with disfavor. Think of it as an advocacy project, and you might not be far wrong. Nothing is wrong with advocacy. The thing that is wrong is to misrepresent it as anything else. Therefore, to mislabel propaganda as "news" is fraudulent. I don't know if truth in advertising applies to the media, but it should. Something that does not allow for another viewpoint that is in opposition to the one expressed cannot be called news, if there is to be any truth in advertising.

The Pravda propaganda complex should be required to label itself as such. At least, when you view it, you will know that what you're viewing isn't "news". An example of the type of reaction you might have is to note what your reaction is to the Russian "news" network--RT. The only way I would watch it is to get their viewpoint. It isn't necessarily MY viewmpoint, you see. By the way, you can count on one hand the number of times that I've gone there. That might be an overestimate, if you catch my drift.

But I don't watch CNN either. Or Fox, or any TV at all. That doesn't mean I don't partake in the propaganda. But nothing I watch claims to be THE NEWS. The label "news" is the most misrepresented term out there. The term news implies impartiality. Anybody who thinks the news media is impartial is not a serious person.
