The Good old days of blogging

9/1/26:

There are 3 versions of this blog 1) The original Boots and Oil blog, started and ended in 2004, 2) this one, which was started in 2009 and is still going, and 3) the newest version, which is called (what else?) Version 3.0. A spin-off to this blog is also available for one's perusal called "Space City Speculations". Therefore, there are 3 currently running blogs.

It's quite a chore to run all three.

By the way, I gave up on trying to make money with the blog a LONG time ago. I do it because I like to do it. That's it.

I don't worry about pageviews anymore, either. Or I try not to worry about it. If nobody came at all, I might give it all up. People seem to come here, but they don't interact. Hence the sparse number of comments. It is what it is. So be it.

2/4/19: The original post follows below:

There was a time when blogging was a new thing.  It had to have started prior to 2002, because that is when I recall reading my first blog.

You can tell when things go to pot.  It is when things get commercialized.  At least that is true in the info biz.

There are some old time blogs still churning out the words, but they seem a little tired and discouraged.   Actually, I think this blog as well as the others have to compete with the likes of Twitter and Facebook.  What survives is something like Instapundit.

But Instapundit is commercialized too.

Blogs aren't what they used to be.  It really was a people's source of info.  This stuff they have now is not good.

Can you fight money and power?

The question probably answers itself.  But you do it anyway.
