The analysis is somewhat correct. However, it is missing one important point---the Federal Reserve controls the shortest term lending period. That's what monetary policy is based upon. In other words, if you were to ask what is the common factor in all three historical examples mentioned, the answer would be the Federal Reserve. If the Federal Reserve makes a policy error, then there will be consequences.

 

I'd be much more suspicious of the Federal Reserve right now.
