What is next

This is kind of like the storm. You are riding out the storm right now. A view of the news results in only madness. The madness is the storm.

It is also like a ship. A ship without a captain is doomed. A ship with a bad captain is like a ship without a captain. The captain has to be strong and sure. Without steady leadership, the ship will be lost.

All of this sounds like defeatism. Or a clamoring for dictatorship. But it isn't. I won't join the madness.

Basically you have to keep your own head within the madness. If the ship sinks, and it surely will, then you have to find a way to survive.

The US is going to lose its leadership role in the world. That is almost a certainty now. There is a lot of de-dollarization happening with the BRICS countries leading the way. Because of poor leadership in DC, this unfortunate event is going to go down. That will mean worsening economic conditions here in the US. Inflation will get worse. The Federal Reserve has already lost control. It will be powerless to end inflation and powerless to spur economic growth. There will be "stagflation". Stagflation is the combination of inflation and recession. There's really nothing to prevent it, because of the failed policies this administration has taken has made it all but inevitable.

This government will be forced to live within its means if there's any hope of gaining control over the worsening situation. Congress should do this NOW, but it looks like they are refusing to take the lead. Again, there's no leadership. Neither party is up to the task. The madness is everywhere it seems.

The final blow may be a war with China. This country is not prepared for such a war, and likely will not prevent the Chinese from taking over Taiwan. This will be the death blow for USA leadership. The dollar will collapse. Those holding dollar valued assets will see their wealth dissolve into nothing. We will be a poor nation. There will be a brain drain. The miscalled Education Establishment has been hard at work destroying what good that there still exists. Recovery will difficult, if not impossible.

If we are lucky, we won't be nuked into the Stone Age. Or worse.

What could prevent all of this? Maybe a miracle, but I wouldn't count on it. A possibility exists, but it is only a possibility. The possibility is that people will come to their senses. It doesn't look good at the moment. You can only come out of the storm of madness if you come to your senses. All of what the madness means is that things will fall apart in a very big way. The cure is a return to sanity. That to me looks like the miracle needed.

Checking in, 4-6-23

Not many posts lately. It seems to be another dry period, so to speak. Not that there isn't anything going on, mind you. Of course there is. There always is.

Time moves on. Things happen, and the world is always in a state of flux. People are born, people die. They live their lives in the midst of this maelstrom of constant change.

For those of the Christian faith, this post is written on the eve of Good Friday. It is the holiest of days on the calendar, if I am not mistaken. There have been times when I thought I was Christian. But I'm not so sure that I really fit this bill. But I am not alone. Perhaps most people don't really fit that bill even though they may claim otherwise. Our self opinions may not square with the facts, as it so often happens with a fallen world.

Death is our lot, and no one is immune from this destiny. The question that has always been whether or not our span on this earth is all that there is, or if there is something beyond this time?

A sister in law has died in the last few days. I'd rather not discuss this on a somewhat public sphere. Only to give a personal note on what is universal to us all. My father died on the eve of Easter many years ago. Now my sister in law has died on the eve of Easter. Quite the coincidence. It is only a thought. I wouldn't want to be irreverent in mentioning it, though.

How do we spend our time on this sphere with what little time that we all have? It goes by so quickly. Eventually the realites will catch up to you, and you must ponder on what your own time, and what will it all mean when it is said and done?

Most of this blog has been about current events. One of the things that all could take note of is the politics of this period of time. Donald Trump, a former president of the United States, has been indicted for a crime. I've written about this from time to time. It is not that Donald Trump is perfectly innocent man or anything. But I do think that his critics are quite unjust, and this latest act is especially unjust. But this is a fallen world. This kind of thing is to be expected. And so it goes.

There are those who may well believe that the end is near. That this world will finally destroy itself in an agony of self inflicted wounds. And for what?

So much for what I think. For everyone has their own opinion. There are as many of those as there are of people. My only thought is the hope that in spite of all this, it may be possible that something better can come of it. But it doesn't look that way, sadly.

On the Prufrokian Disease

Here we are again, with the anti-Trumpian faction using the Lawfare tactic of eliminating a political opponent. Trump was indicted, so the question is now: What response shall there be to this?

I pulled up this post because it deals with the ineffectual response that we so often see amongst the conservative tribe. It is this lack of meaningful action with regards to the difficulties of life that is the most concerning.

This is not to suggest a violent response. In fact, true conservatives aren't very likely to pursue such a strategy regardless of the continual slander of the political left to the contrary. Indeed, it is my assertion here that the ineffectual response is the one most likely. That is what needs to change.

I've referred to this under a different name before. I call it the wolf v lamb argument, in which the wolf always wins because force gets the better of an argument. It will happen here as well, unless the so-called conservatives craft a response that will put a stop to this kind of thing. It was one of Aesop's Fables, which seems to me to apt to our situation. A situation that will never improve until we improve our responses to leftist provocations.

Most of those on the so-called right will do nothing. Others may be provoked into self-defeating gestures. The trick is to do EFFECTIVE things. Just talking about this will no longer be sufficient. Actions are needed, but what actions?

If the Republican party actually had any courage of convictions, this would definitely draw a stern response. But it appears that the party is much too divided and weak to be of any effective action.

Forget about trying to use reason on the political left. They've completely lost their minds. Somehow, those who support a more sane approach to life in this country ( or what's left of it), will have to find an effective course of action. Mere talk won't yield any better results than before. The other side won't listen, and the continued failure of such approaches only emboldens the left to get ever more aggressive and outrageous.

This was an idea for a post that may span several posts.  As with all the series of posts on this blog, I include a link to the previous post, and the next post, as indicated above.

By the way, this topic may not be as long as I thought.  It may be short.  Anyway, I keep seeing evidence of a pattern, and I saw something again this morning.

What I saw was a video that briefly discusses the late sixties self help book, I'm Ok, You're Ok.  It so happens that I read that book way back then, and I think the narrator oversimplified it a bit.  In discussing it here, I think I am likely to do a bit of oversimplification myself.  My take on the book is that it a popularized version of Freud.  This allows me to swerve back into the Prufrokian discussion that I began.  To recap, Prufrock was a fictional guy in the poem by T.S. Eliot.  Prufrock always fails because he is afraid.  He is afraid because his Superego ( Freud) overwhelms his Id.  In short, I identify with Prufrock.  I don't seem to get anywhere in life because of my fears- same as Prufrock.

As a result of that insight, I look for it elsewhere.  It seems to be all around us.  The so-called conservatives don't like Trump because he is so uncivilized.  But maybe, like Prufrock, we are already too civilized, and we need to channel our inner Id.

You can cite another movie, The Fight Club, in which the main character overcomes his Superego, but it darn near kills him.  When the main character meets his "dark side", he is encouraged to hit him as hard as he can.  The dark side lures him into battle, in which he finds his true self.  He becomes his dark side alter ego in the process, while retaining his own prior self.

These are dangerous ideas, of course.  One might want to suppress such notions, but then you are back to the Superego.  Do you really want to be in that place?  You may think that you are safe there, but Prufrock drowned.

I think Western Civilization may be a lot like Prufrock and is drowning too.

Meatballs

Meatball scientists won't eat their creation

The link refers to some lab grown "meat" from prehistoric mammoth cells. They did a Jurassic Park without the mammoth. But they didn't use frog dna. Instead, they used elephant dna. No mammoth had to die because it has already been dead for millenia. How sensitive, how kind! PETA should be happy about that.

The scientists are a little worried about eating any of the lab grown meat, but they did make a meatball out of it.

Supposedly this meatball will save humanity because it takes so little resources to make the meatball. Only if someone would be willing to eat the thing and see if it turns them into a frankenstein monster. Maybe it won't even give you heartburn. The best bet against this is to cook it sufficiently.

Seems odd, this reluctance. So many people took mrna "vaccines". Why the reluctance to act as guinea pigs? They should be used to it by now.

Provided that they can find someone to eat the meatball, we'll have to wait and see if their creation will prove to be a viable product. It has remarkable qualities. It takes hardly any water to make one, for example. No word on how much it costs. Presumably, it will cost a lot less to make a meatball this way since it uses so few resources.

Not sure what the meatball would be called. It is made of a prehistoric mammoth, so maybe it can be called the mammoth meatball.

Looks like Biden and the Dems choose Sodom and Gomorrah.  

It's the 1950s to blame for the woman who shot up the Christian school.

In that time period, such a woman would have been considered mentally ill.  If she institutionalized, things might've been a bit different.

Choice between 1950's and what exactly?

If it's between what she charactizes as 1950's, then how should we characterize what the leftists are doing to this country today? Is it not the choice between the 1950's, and Sodom and Gomorrah? Drag queen shows for little kids? Are you freaking kidding me?

Since Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed, I think the choice should be a no-brainer.

How she knew that they were lying about covid

The lady gives some evidence seen with her own eyes. A little thought and common sense would enable one to connect the dots and conclude that they were indeed lying about COVID. The masking and the lockdowns didn't help. The reason? There were way too many exceptions to the rules. With all the exceptions to the rules, if the masking and lockdowns DID help, then they couldn't because the rules were unenforceable. People were violating the rules left and right. A notable example was Nancy Pelosi going to the salon that was supposed to be locked down. The author of this piece gives several more examples.

So basically, you should know by now that the fastest way to determine if they are lying is to observe their lips. If their lips are movin', they are lying.

I guess it is okay to cite actual evidence of the lies, but it takes a long time to get that out. The COVID madness got started about 3 years ago. It's only now that the truth is being acknowledged. In another 3 years, the truth will have dribble out so much that nobody would doubt it any longer. By that time, the damage that the COVID madness did will have been done, and we will be in the midst of yet another one of their lies.

People need to wise up faster. It took years to uncover the Russia, Russia hoax. It has taken all this time to uncover the COVID hoax. In the meantime, the commies are playing their current hoax. It is a variation of "our democracy" and "rule of law" hoax. This drives the madness surrounding their constant legal harassment of Donald Trump.

It has worked for them because people are too slow in understanding, and/or too weak to oppose them.

Bottom up or top down?

 

Here's another post that doesn't really say anything new, but maybe it can be written in a way that can encourage those who may be interested to think about it a little differently. Perhaps more constructively as well, but that may be ambitious.

At a State of the Union address during the Reagan Presidency, the then President said that there were three words in the Constitution that makes us different than any other country---"We the People". Back in the days when the Constitution was being written, there was talk about making George Washington the King of the newly minted country called the United States. Instead, George Washington presided over the Convention which gave the country a completely different way of governance. That governance was meant to be from the people, and not to the people. Power and sovereignty flowed FROM the people--- as opposed to the other way around. Prior to that, it was the other way around. To a large extent, it is still true today.

This dynamic is being played out this very day in the discussion about a certain event that happened on January 6th, 2021. For some, it was called an "insurrection". To others, it is called a "riot", or "disturbance". The event itself wasn't much of an "insurrection", as nobody was armed. This is part of the point I wish to address here. For it is this: Where is the "sovereignty" that is being violated, if the violation is said to be insurrectionary? The people who came to that place on January 6th weren't trying to overturn the Constitution, nor any of its laws. The were merely contesting the manner in which the laws were being applied. This hardly seems insurrectionary, nor revolutionary. For if this is a nation of laws, it is certainly game to question HOW those laws are being enforced.

On the other hand, if it is a nation of MEN, then it IS insurrectionary to question the AUTHORITY of those in power. The notion of where power comes from is at issue here. It isn't even about who won the election. It is about how its LAWS are to be enforced. If the group that came there could be satisfied with the accuracy and fidelity to law, and protested ANYWAY, then there's a problem. However, there is good reason to question how the laws are being carried out. A tyrant will brook no opposition. Whereas, in a DEMOCRACY, the will of the people is the sovereign. This is opposed to anyone who should try to USURP authority, no matter where the source comes from, from within or without.

In short, if the people truly got the hearing they should have gotten, then there would be no reasonable basis to which to object. But that didn't happen. The courts sidestepped the issue, and still are.

If the courts cannot be relied upon, then what can? In the absence of leadership, a vacuum occurred, and nature abhors a vaccuum. There could have been a reasonable outcome to all this, but that was not allowed. There was still two weeks before inauguration day, and the Constitution provided a way to decide who was to be president if the election could yield no outcome. Was time really that critical at that moment?

Some would argue that that way was taken. But was it necessary those who participated in the "riot" as being somehow guilty of prevented the lawful performance of any duty? For a few hours perhaps, but is that really that critical?

A nation of laws could handle such a situation. But a nation of men can brook no dissent. The hammer must come down and come down hard. The "strongman" cannot allow anyone to challenge his authority. But what harm is there if the standard is the law? If authority comes from the law, and the challenge is found to be in error, then any further disturbance is not to be allowed. But did these people really mean to challenge the law itself? If not, then how can it be insurrection?

Words may fail me. It has always seemed to me that the controversy could have been handled in a better way, and somebody wanted trouble. The courts dropped the ball- did they intend to? Maybe the fix was in, but if it was really fixed, then whatever the people think doesn't really matter, now does it? If so, the Constitution that George Washington intended for the USA to have, is no longer in effect. It is now a nation of MEN, not laws. Those in charge would like to pretend otherwise, but reality says otherwise. What we are seeing is an USURPATION, not a continuation. If it is now a nation of MEN, then there has been a coup.

Briefly, a nation of laws would permit dissent on the basis of law. A nation of men would permit no dissent at all. The sovereignty gives the authority. If the true authority is in MEN, then MEN cannot tolerate dissent. Only a nation of laws can permit dissent, because it is in dissent that the law can be ascertained for what it is, and what it can do. A nation of MEN cannot afford that. A nation of laws DEPENDS upon it. A nation of laws is bottom up, that gets its authority from the people. Top down governance proceeds from the strong man, always has, and always will.
