Submissive void

There was a post on Free Republic that mentions a term called the submissive void. It features a population that cannot detect propaganda, and thus accepts what they hear as normal, and believes it.

When I was in the school system, the nature of propaganda was taught. It was up to people to recognize it through the descriptions thus given. I can remember some terms: 1) glittering generalities 2) plain folks 3) bandwagon 4) card stacking, and probably many more. To learn of these should be required in a free society. Don't tell the people what to think, just give them the tools to decide for themselves.

The source for the term submissive void came from a Free Republic post. It won't be linked because there's a big dose of anti-Americanism in it.

Generally, propaganda has had negative connotations in America. This is not necessarily the case in other countries, if memory serves. The "submissive void" is probably what is desired. It does seem to be the general case that politicians don't want any back talk from the plebes. The USA was supposed to be different because of the 1st Amendment. It doesn't look like theory matches the facts anymore. Those who report the news give a slanted version of it.

It may well have gone past propaganda, and into Joseph Goebbels territory. The Nazi Regime didn't mind "propaganda", but any other party besides the Nazi Party was outlawed and suppressed. If memory serves, Goebbels may have invented the term "the big lie". The Nazi Regime had the people firmly in their grip. Goebbels was a master propagandist.

In this day and age, the ability to pull off the big lie is something to behold. It could well be the manifestation of the submissive void, since there aren't enough people willing to challenge the propaganda coming from this regime in power in America. With information easily available, anybody can get answers to questions with a mere click of a mouse. The rise of the submissive void should be unfathomable here; but looking around, it certainly seems like there is one. There really isn't much of an excuse for being misinformed. It is a type of neglect.

It has been said that freedom requires eternal vigilance. Is anybody out there willing to step up and man the walls from the threat of false information? As for me, the media is totally unreliable. Besides the media, there are few options. But they exist. If it was up to this regime, they'd shut down ALL options. That's what propaganda is like. The claim of democracy is their big lie. The oppressors talk like that in totalitarian regimes. The people in those regimes get a distorted view of reality. This makes the people easy to manipulate.

It is not a pleasant road to travel.
