Thorcon news

Thorcon is developing a manufacturing method of making modular nuclear reactors that can be mass produced in shipyards. It isn't the usual way of doing things, as the usual way is to build very large containment domes. Those require a lot of concrete, as it is a massive structure.

But Thorcon reactors won't need containment domes. It hasn't nothing to do with water. The solid fueled reactors which use water are the ones that need very strong containment facilities. It cannot melt down because it is already melted. The molten-salt actually is self-regulating and won't overheat. If power is lost, the system will drain in a containment tank which will keep it in safe mode until power is restored.

From the video, it almost sounds like these people don't understand those basic facts about the molten-salt reactor. Or they believe that nobody will understand it and so they will be afraid of it. If the fear is too strong, people won't accept it. That's unfortunate.

The trouble is that there has been a lot of fear-mongering about nuclear power, and that is why this technology lags way behind the time that it should have been adopted. The proof of concept was proven in the seventies, nearly 50 years ago.

The fear mongering has to stop. It is costing too much to make these kinds of false choices. This video doesn't include some of what I just wrote, as it is my opinion. The video follows below:
