Hiding behind the false fig leaf of Democracy
These politicians want to hide behind the claim of the "will of the people". But there's no requirement under the CONUS that they do so.
The State Legislatures can disregard the popular vote. Remember the National Popular Vote Compact proposal? Regardless of the vote within a state, a member of that compact would award their electors to the purported winner of the popular vote. Therefore, if that were constitutional for them to do so, then they could disregard their state's popular vote.
Rather than to discuss if that were constitutional, it would be best to recognize that these politicians don't respect the popular vote anyway. The SCOTUS also disregarded the "will of the people" of California when they made same-sex marriage legal. It is not unprecedented for the courts to do it. It is not required under the CONUS, and the politicians would disregard the voters of their own state under a proposed compact. Democracy is a fig leaf. The fake is a fraudulent vote count.
Therefore, who do they really want to be POTUS? That is the real question. Not who won the election. If they cared about that, they would honor it. They do not honor it now. They are hiding behind it as their excuse for doing what they wanted to do all along.
If the GOP doesn't want Trump, why didn't they refuse to nominate him at the RNC? Why put the country through this? Likewise, if they DID want him to be POTUS, then why don't they act that way now?
